RetroPie Change Emulators via Config
-
Hi all,
The GPSP emulator is not currently working at all on my raspberry pi (it just quits as soon as I open any game) and I need a way to change it. I can't press enter on the runcommand menu in order to change the emulator and I can't find a config file anywhere that would let me change the default emulator to something else. There is no way I can connect up a keyboard to press enter. Thanks in advance,
Josh -
You should also be able to open the menu with your joypad
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/runcommandIf you wanted to go direct to the file and edit it manually, it is here:
/opt/retropie/configs/gba/emulators.cfg
I'd be tempted to find out why gpsp isnt working for you.
Is there an error in/tmp/runcommand.log
? -
There is a blank file at /tmp/runcommand.log. I am slightly confused on changing the emulator, I couldn't find lr-vba-next in the libretrocores folder where lr-gpsp was.
Thanks for your help,
Josh -
@Josh To change an emulator you just press your controller button as indicated here:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/runcommand -
None of the buttons on my gameboy will accept options (on a keyboard this is normally done with enter) and there is no easy way that I can see which will let me change them without changing a lot of config files.
Cheers,
Josh -
You can change it manually if you edit
opt/retropie/configs/gba/emulators.cfg
-
When launching it syas that the emulator is lr-vba-next, which is what I want but it still does what gpsp does as it exits when the game is launched. Is there any known fix?
Cheers,

Can you try a different rom? Whats the filename of your existing rom?
Have you put the bios file in the right folder?

Hey did @Josh ever sort this out, having a similar problem.
I have all the bios in the correct place,I just need to know what needs to be entered into the config to change it via there.

https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/runcommandThis fixed my issue.. My daughter mashed buttons while a rom was loading and managed to change the default emulator to one that did not work with half the roms that worked previously.
So ROMS suddenly stopped working is now fixed. Thanks guys. -
Quick question! Retropie newb here.
My emulators.cfg file for the GBA is blank.
I get an error that asks me if there is an issue withthe emulator.cfg file. There is! It's blank.
I monkeyed around and copied the SNES emulators.cfg and it a ROM almost booted up! All I need is the text from someones emulators.cfg file so I can copy/paste and I should be back in business.
Thanks!

@nick_harrisom Remove the file, then update your GBA emulators from the RetroPie-Setup script and the file would be created again, correctly.
