Cares with the storage option

I don't know if i remember correctly, but i think i read somewhere that some errors may occur if a >64gb micro sd card is used. Anyway, since i'm downloading too much games and my 32gb micro sd card get fulled in the blink of an eye, i wanna buy a external hd to store all my stuff. My question is: do i have to worry about the size of the external hd? Cause maybe a bigger than "X"GB external hd is dangerous or something like that. Does it need to be a USB 3.0? i mean, i don't know if Raspberry Pi 3 use 3.0 USB (couldn't find this info even on Raspberry site). Basically i wanna know what my external HD should have and which cares i should have when choosing a good one. Any tips are welcome

@vahnxdean There's no restriction on the size of the micro SD card from RetroPie, and this applies to an external disk also.
For reference, the RPI has a USB 2.0 controller - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raspberry_Pi#Specifications. -
@mitu Ok, so i will bought a 3.0 External HD to at least transfer the games as fast as possible from my PC to the HD. But i won't have any gain when RPI is readind the data on the HD, since RPI's port is 2.0 right? btw, there is no compatibility problem if the HD is 3.0 and the RPI is 2.0, right?
