Here are a couple of mini cabs I just finished building. These have interchangeable control panels (Joystick, spinner, trackball, and 2 joystick Robotron). The display can be switched from horizontal or vertical.

        Badass!!!

I love the interchangeable panels!! Is it just a single 9-pin connector?

        Amazing work :)

Yes, I have one of those zero delay usb encoders in the cab with a 9-pin female hooked up to the pins. The spinner and trackball are both usb, so I also have a small usb extension inside as well. Easy to swap out the control panels. These 2 were protypes I made for a friend and I and am building another one for another individual. These things add up cost wise though.

@Redstoner Thought about it, but I don't think I really want to go there...

Did you use a kit or did you build them from scratch?

awesome - love the swappable controls. Robotron is ace.

These are all scratch built. I have built 4 different styles for people (built 12 total so far). After building separate cabs with individual controls, my friend and I decided to try a modular design so one cab could have all the controls and vertical or horizontal screen. Finishing up a Donkey Kong themed one now for someone who saw these and wanted one. For their size, they are actually quite playable.
