I have installed Retropie few days ago and got strange system behaviour. I can play only one ROM/game then when I return to game menu (START+SELECT) and click another one it doesn't start. it stops on Launching message. SELECT+START not working anymore but writes signs on the screen so it seems that system not hung completely anyway the only I can do is to power off/on. After load it reoccurs no matter which platform I use.

btw snap, wheel and boxart directories? are they necessary?

      thanks in advance

            as per information above

if I use any of rom and will exit I cannot run any other/new without reboot RPi

second attempt to start ROM finishes with message

            Launching name_of_rom (name of emulator)

Press a button to configure etc

nothing more is loaded. No reaction on SELECT+START

pushing other controller buttons shows below signs like ^[[D^[[D every time I push buttons so it means that system not freezes completely as it respond on press

any suggestions what it can be?

@iedrek Do you actually mean a Pi 1B or the latest Pi 3B? That would make a big difference.
Are you using Attract Mode? You mention "wheels" etc.
              Have you tried updating everything?
You still haven't really given a lot of info. "snes, nes, atari" etc are not emulators. They are systems than can be emulated via RetroPie, sometimes by 3, 4 or more different actual emulators.
If you aren't too far in or have a spare card I would suggest starting again. If an issue is system-wide it would indicate serious underlying problems. Sometimes it is better (and quicker) to have a fresh start.

                it is Pi 1B

asking about wheel, snap, box art just wanted to know if those directories are needed as such packages of rom I have downloaded and except rom files there were such directories (jpg, png, mp4 files inside) just want to know as I am newbie in this area

lets say I use (lr-prosystem) for NES - start one game which I can play without a problems then do exit -> then choose next game from the list and... problem

and yes I have updated system today - nothing changed

@iedrek Honestly, I would concentrate on getting it working before worring about all the bells and whistles. All you need for now is the game ROMs.
Are you trying to launch NES games with lr-prosystem? Because that is an Atari7800 emulator...

I have found something now. When I push START+SELECT idn the first rom and choose second one just after list is showed i have problem I described but when I will go to main menu and enter again to SNES list I can start new rom without problems... so it is workaround at least. Seems like going up to menu refresh some buffers of Pi...

@iedrek You really shouldn't need a workaround. I would advise you to start afresh. Re-flash the image to the card and begin again.
As I said, these sorts of problems are indicative of some larger problem. Ignoring it or working around it will not fix it and it will most likely get worse.

@iedrek No problem. What I would advise doing is re-downloading the image file just in case that may have been corrupted somehow. Good luck. Let me know how you get on.

I had this issue in N64 and all it took was a reboot to fix it. If I can remember what the issue was I will post it to see if it's related or not.
