VICE XBOX 360 Controller DPAD Right "Autostart Image"

Hi All,
Installed retropie earlier this week and loving it. Had a few issues but the forum, the docs or Google has sorted me out so far.
Got one issue now though that I cant fix. Using VICE to run C64 games (in this case "Slicks") I'm using a XBOX 360 wireless controller and I'd like to use the DPAD to control direction: for this case the analog stick is too imprecise. However, when i push DPAD right it brings up the "Autostart image" menu. I've looked everywhere and I cant find out how to unmap this. Does anyone know how to stop the DPAD right bringing up the autostart image menu and make it work as a standard direction button instead?

How to replicate the problem: Whilst running VICE, push DPAD right on XBOX 360 controller. This brings up the "Autostart image" screen. How do I use DPAD right as a direction button, not as a hotkey.
