I am a newbie to RetroPie. From the RetroPie Setup Script, I have 4.3.8. I have searched the web for this same issue and did not find a resolution for my issue. I have updated the firmware of the SF30 Pro controllers, update RetroPie, installed the Joystick Selection.
Both controllers are connected via bluetooth. They are setup as the following:
Udev rule for Joypad are set for both
configure bluetooth connect mode to background
      8bitdo mapping hack OFF

I have set up Joystick Selection :
      1 0:Pro Controller #1
      2 1:Pro Controller #2
      3 UNSET
      4 UNSET

Is there anything else I am missing here? I have read in some posting if the controller are the same, the system knows to set one for controller 1 and 2. But it is not the case here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks in advance.

@peterd0404 You probably haven't had a reply as this has already been covered extensively on the forum. Have you tried the search function? It's not great but it usually turns something up.
          Here's what I found https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/15201/8bitdo-sf30-pro-and-sn30-pro/2

@peterd0404 curious, why did you set a udev rule?

@edmaul69 I am thinking it is because of step 12 in our own documentation says to setup a UDEV rule for configuring 8bitdo controllers. Is this a bad idea? What are the implications of doing this step (or skipping it)? If setting up a UDEV rule is a bad idea, we should fix the docs.

@caver01 not sure. I have never used the udev rule and had no issues running more than one at a time.

Thank you all for replying. I will have to try the links above when I have some time tomorrow night. I appreciate your inputs.

I set up the udev rule through other tutorial that was available online. I will also take a look at documentation link from @caver01

consider the issue resolved. I have another issue but will have a new post on it.

@peterd0404 how did you resolve the issue? I am having the same problem with 2 8bitdo controllers. They work in Emulation station but one goes to sleep once I start a rom. Thanks
