3 error codes and keyboard and controllers don't work anymore.
-
Sorry for the length, I just want to provide as much info as possible.
I had just finished installing the retropie image according to TecTipsta's tutorial for 3.6 on youtube. I followed his steps precisely and finished installing the image and configuring my controller (like a retro SNES with a USB) and went to plug in my keyboard to configure that as well. I wasn't able to complete the configuration for the keyboard so I set the rest of the buttons to "not defined." I moved on to his raspi config part but I didn't split the memory or mess with anything there. After rebooting I got the following 3 error codes:
lvl10: Error creating SDL window! Could not create GLES window surface
lvl10: Renderer failed to initialize!
lvl10: Window failed to initialize!
Now neither the keyboard nor controller will work and I even bought a new keyboard which doesn't work.
Please help! -
If you're just starting, re-flash the standard RetroPie image and start over - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/

Thanks for responding! Will my rpie write over the existing files or do I need to remove them from first before reinstalling?

@lasherations A fresh install of the image will wipe it completely. Why are you following some random, totally outdated tutorial from a random YouTuber?
Use the official docs. They are always the best source of info and as up to date as they can be.
EDIT : Also those errors tell me you are trying to launch EmulationStation from within a Desktop terminal. You cannot do this. RetroPie does not run onX
ie the Desktop, it uses SDL. You need to logout of the Desktop to launch it from the command line.
EDIT 2 Also, did you enable the experimental GL Driver from withinraspi-config
? If you did turn that off ASAP, RetroPie will not run with that enabled. -
Thanks for the help! I was using that particular tutorial because I found the official docs too technical and daunting for that matter, but I'll get over my trepidation and try it again. As for trying to launch from a desktop terminal, I'm not sure exactly what you mean. I have my RPi hooked up to my tv, never to my desktop computer. I didn't enable the GL driver, I skipped over everything in the raspi-config because I wanted just a basic set up, but I'll make sure it's off after I reinstall the image. Again thanks for taking time out of your day to read and respond! I can't wait to play!
What games are your favorite to play on retropie?
