controllers keep swapping direction.

ive set up my retropie system and all was well but now when i configure the controllers they configure correctly, up down left right etc but when i launch a game, down is up and right is left. can anyone shed any light on this its driving me mad. thanks in advance.

I sorted it. One of the joysticks was upside down. it configured correctly but when playing a game it was back to front, strange but fixed now.
