Retropie 240p CRT support?
-
Hi!
Long time lurker and first post here. I recently got my hands on a Sony Trinitron 28inch and hooked my Raspberry into it. Got the 240p working and my eyes got watery of the Nostalgia 😊 BUT, as i have read on the internet its far from perfect and so i have noticed. I feel as if the scanlines are far to wide and it makes me naucious playing for a longer period of time.
I have read about some people using a "super horisontal" resolution to get better results but i havnt really gotten it to work myself. The forum threads i have found are very hard to understand and no real answer.
Would love to get som answers, and thanks beforehand!

I have the scanlines overlay turned on with an LCD. I find that the movement also makes me nausious after some time, and it seems to blur the movement a bit, I will be removing them again once I have enough time to remember where the setting was.

@nossral i didnt notice them being too big on a 37” jvc when i set mine up. But i use a 13” sony flat crt now. You dont have scanlines turned on in the emulators do you?

@edmaul69 thanks for the reply! No all overlays and shaders are off. Some games look worse than others. But maybe thats how it looked back then, long time since i played on the original consoles. But something still feels off, still get naucious and some strange rainbow effects appear in certain games. 🤔
-
@nossral are the games you get rainbow on vertical arcade games?
-
@nossral How are you connecting you pi to your TV?
-
@edmaul69 no, i mainly just play nes and Snes games. Im adding some photos to show what im talking about. Pic1 megaman x health bar Secret of mana dialogue text. @Rion i have the Pi connected via the 3.5 jack to a scart adapter into the Scart input of the Trinitron. Just by watching the pictures i get slightly nausiated ^^

@rion i have heard about those, havnt really understood what they do exactly. But maybe i will give em a shot. Witch one do you recommend?
-
@nossral Watch the video first. But my recommendation is RetroTINK.
-
@rion thanks! I will check it out, do i need rgb input to use these 2? Or will it work anyway? Im not sure my trinitron supports it. Is there anyway to know?
-
@nossral Yes look at the back of the tv. Do you have a scart input?
-
@rion my inputs look like this https://imgur.com/a/4HER1 dont know what the orange scart is.
-
@nossral AFAIK the orange scart is S-Video, black scart is RGB

I would go with RetroTINK Ultimate and a VGA to Scart cable with two external Audio connections.
To get better audio instead of using the built-in 3.5mm audio jack a would recommend a usb soundcard.
