This game is honestly amazing and one of my childhood favorites. It's one of the first games I completed when I got my RetroPie. It's a lot of fun.

This is Ducktales for the kids who had a brainfart and chose the inferior console.

I don't think anyone would agree that the Megadrive or Genesis was inferior to the nes 🙄. Not a fair comparison though as the NES was getting pretty old by this point and its main competitor was the Master System (the Master System was also technically superior to the NES but the NES arguably had a much better game library).
The megadrive was hugely successful and Sega was at it's prime when it released, it was only later that Sega made lots of mistakes (though at least we still got the Dreamcast).

Quackshot is really nothing like Ducktales. It's more of a platform adventure game with a slight metroidvania feel to it as you have revisit levels and progress by getting new equipment. It's not a particularly long game but is great fun - one of my personal favourites on the Megadrive.

That doesn't make the games alike, though I'm sure you knew that. They're not even made by the same developers (Ducktales was developed by Capcom and Quackshot was developed by Sega).
Ducktales is a much more traditional platformer and Quackshot is more of an adventure game.

I got burned by that same logic on Christmas day 1992. My brother had a Sega Genesis prior to that and I used to sneak into his room to play 'Spider-Man vs. Kingpin'. To this day, I believe it to be one of the best representations of the comic, standing right alongside Activision's later 3D titles. When I got my Super Nintendo, I wanted my own Spider-Man game, so I asked for 'Spider-Man and the X-Men in Arcade's Revenge'. By my logic, the two games were from the same comic universe and the Super Nintendo had to be superior to the Genesis that had already been out for three years. Heck, this new game would even have the X-Men in it.

Well, all you need to see in hindsight is the little Rainbow LJN logo on the game to know that I was wildly disappointed. Even with the later release of 'Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage', which many believe to be LJN's only good game, the Super Nintendo never had a Spidey game that matched the quality of 'Spider-Man vs. Kingpin'. Make no mistake, I still loved my Super Nintendo, but I would eventually get a Sega CDX to play the type of games that the Sega platform always seemed to have a better handle on.

You managed to spell LJN two different ways, neither of them correct.

That's what I get for typing about retro video games when I should be focused on a conference call, coincidentally involving a company we're working with named LGF. I corrected it above.

Man, have I had a rotten day. A little pizza, an Oatmeal Porter or two and some 'QuackShot' sounds like just the ticket.

Still not bad as plans go. George Carlin's never a bad choice. You finishing up high school this year or do you have one more to go?

@mediamogul One more, as I am currently a Junior. (11th grade in the US.) Plan to go to either a nearby community college or the nearby University (haven't visted the Uni yet, so still undecided.) I plan to go to college one of the following, I.T./Computer Systems or Computer Graphic Arts (which the school near me has a full graphic arts/game design course for a certificate.) Mostly undecided other than the school I'll go to, which is 15min from my house and won't require me to live on campus.

I kinda liked living on campus for the most part. I brought my Super Nintendo with me, as I still enjoyed it, but it was old enough that it wouldn't have been a complete loss if it was stolen. We ended up playing a lot of 'F-Zero', 'Super Mario Kart' and an excellent hockey game that someone brought over and left. I need to figure out which one it was at some point. Good times!

@lilbud haha so true! Sega made a lot of poor choices. The Sega Genesis was not one of them. You have to remember that the Genesis was out in the US well before the snes so it was by far the best system out for a while.

Considering Nintendo's no violence policy at the time, even the Game Gear version was better. That policy lost them a lot of customers and I don't believe they've ever been able to shake the stigma of being a childish company in many people's eyes even after it was abolished.

Absolutely. They had a win with Street Fighter 2 which convinced a lot of people to buy a SNES (myself included - I bought the street fighter 2 bundle).
Only a year later Mortal Kombat was on the way and I saved for ages so that I could buy it - the most expensive game I've bought as it cost £65 if I remember correctly and I had to trade in some games to get the price down a bit. And what a disappointment, easily the game I've most regretted buying ever. Without the blood and gore it was a very mediocre fighting game.

Hell, even with the blood and gore I still see the first few Mortal Kombat games as mediocre at best.

You aren't wrong. I do think that the second game was a big improvement though and is the only 2d Mortal Kombat I still quite like (though that is probably largely due to nostalgia) it has much more memorable characters apart from anything else.

Good point about 'Street Fighter II'. Control layout aside, it really felt like the arcade version had come home. After the novelty of the violence and digitized fighters wore off, the early MK series mostly appealed to me because of it's backstory, which MKII greatly improved upon. Outside of a thinly drawn story of a mystical martial arts tournament, I'd even say the first game doesn't have much of a story at all. However, it did feel very cinematic, seeing as how they directly ripped their characters from popular movies such as 'Enter the Dragon', 'Bloodsport', 'Big Trouble in Little China' and the China O'Brien series.

Thanks to this edition of GOTM I realized that the achievement set for Quackshot was very poor and buggy. I've made a revision fixing the bugs and adding some new achievements. I hope you enjoy. ;)
