May I suggest maging the ES user interface more "kid friendly", ie. less confusing when navigating and starting games.

Most importantly, not switching between systems with LEFT-RIGHT keys when already in particular system menu, ie. between NES, SMS, etc.

Also, and I guess this is more of an Retropie issue - the "press a key for options" right after you launch a game is very confusing for kids, especially after they find themselves in a text environment. Changing that to "press a specific key for options" would improve the experience a lot, while still keeping the functionality.

      You can set them not to. It's all in the docs. As they used to say, RTFM ;-}

@Drakaen391 you can remove the files in ~/RetroPie/roms/SYSTEM which might be easier and they will not show. If editing es_systems.cfg copy it to ~/.emulationstation/ and it won't get overwritten (you will need to manually keep it in sync though)

What if you just rename the folder foldername to foldername_notshow?

That way you can easy switch back if you want without removing them?

Easier way, just set a hidden directory named let's say .hidden. then you move all the directories you don't want showing into it. Come the day you want this or that showing, just move em back out.

well I only used the native scraper once and it was awful, luckly we had the sselph scraper, yet would be nice integrate some sselphscrapper gui into emulationstation interface.

The shutdown image it's an awesome idea but I presume that functionality relies on operation system and not on emulation station.

Another cool feature would be adding an start menu for login in on retroachievements (cheevos) with features like login in, log out, change user.

Yep, exactly, I just made a folder called .unused in each emulator folder I wanted to hide from the menu, and moved the files to that folder. I just means I can move them out later if I decide I want to use them.

I'm guessing this is an Emulation Station issue but I'd like to see a simple way of setting up NAS servers. Having to docommand line changes is a pain. A nice interface that helps you setup a drive and config the emulators so they can see your ROMS would be great. I have some ROMS on my SD card and the larger sized ones on my NAS. Would be great to be able to set it up in one place instead of editing lots of config files

I don't see the need to make it a sticky.

                      Autostart game

this would be helpful for those who made themed arcade systems featuring one game.
Or for those who want to use the retropie system for kodi use and when exiting playing games for the kids..

@meleu You've got some good ones listed here. Particularly those listed under improved theming. I'm all for further customisation to keep things fresh.

                        I've listed my request here:

i'd like to see those Theming requests, plus the ability of using boxart & system logos, etc, with in folders, so we can sub-categorise roms into regions/genre's and still have art for them

This is cool and all, but are we sure Emulation Station hasn't been abandoned? It hasn't received even the most minor of updates in over a year.

It looks beautiful so I'm glad it's the (stagnant) RetroPie launcher of choice, and it does have its problems, but maybe the best idea is to post these suggestions on its github page.

@bmn001 We are aware that Aloshi abandoned the upstream development. When I started this topic I was aiming at the RetroPie fork, but since then I realized that this fork isn't exactly at active development too.

But there is a hope! :-) There is a guy who showed interest in play with emulationstation code focused on RetroPie. And, yes, we repeated these feature requests on his github repository.

I agree the idea to choose the controler for player X with a graphical interface. My pi is on a arcade box with 2 joysticks like a bartop, it's usefull to select other gamepad on external usb. Not need to open the box disconnect the arcade joysticks

you could always try the AttractMode img, yeah your gamelists will be redundent, but it's a little more user friendly. each emu page is loaded separately, so much quicker ant each emu can have its own theme too! also you can have boxart, screen captures, MP4 clips or wheel art on most of the available themes
these are all my opinions of course

At least you can do it for libretro/retroarch emulators:

On the scraper optimization front, I think my biggest barrier with the scraper within emulationstation is the fact that it doesn't seem to ignore roms with (US) or [b1] basically any nonsense in the rom's filename. It would go a long way to being useful if it ignored these indicators when it scraped or at least gave you the option to ignore that.

I like the idea of having different ways to sort the games instead of alphabetic only. I think it would also be helpful if it would have a way to show the last game you played on top or the last 3 games or even just automatically highlight the last game you played after a reboot. Also sorting by popularity would be nice like having the most played game on top and the least played game on the bottom of the list.

A way to mark certain files, like the bios files that need to be in the Roms libary, so they won't be displayed on the screen list.

@Wolfieee Why not put all of your roms in your NAS and be done with it? Sure you still have to tinker a bit but it's a one and done situation. Not to mention, the amount of programming someone would have to go through to save you from copying some folders, making a share and editing a config file would be insane and there are much more important things the devs could be doing...
