@jray707 Please give more details about your system - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first. If you don't know how to change the DNS but you have internet working for you (you configured Wifi or a wired connection), then there's no reason to change the DNS.

Kodi reports that it isnt connected to the internet but will play some videos and retropi will scrape so their is a connection(i have a wired connection). I read online most ppl with this issue fixed it the same way and im convinced that this is the fix to change dns. What im pasting below is what they said.

"change the Pi to Google name server:
          sudo nano /etc/resolv.conf
          Change to 8.8.8.8
          After this, immediately everything works."

So how do I go about changing this. I tried typing this in but none of the listed items said dns? One of them was 75.75.75 75 so i tried changing it to 8.8 8.8 but nothing i dont think that was the dns so i should probably change it back

Editing resolv.conf will always be temporary, I believe. The system overwrites/edits resolv.conf at times so changes may not/probably won't stick. Unless you manually set an IP address on the Pi, you should be getting whatever DNS servers your router (or whatever device is the DHCP server) is set to hand out.
