Theme: Flatline (WIP)
-
Here is a theme I'm currently working on. Since I personally don't like to much graphics and can barely find images that look good with my personal themes, I decided to see if I can make a theme that doesn't have any graphics.
Well, it has 3 images.- A 1x1 white pixel for the background, lines and gamelist selector.
- A 1x1 transparent pixel to hide something (although I probably could remove it)
- A square image with a line at the bottom for the grid selector
Everything else is just a font set.
It should support all systems. I only added system folders for some systems where I changed the system names so they are in multiple lines. Otherwise something like Super Nintendo Entertainment System would be too long if it was in one line.
Although I don't know if it works with custom collections, I never used them.It also is pretty simple to change the colors, there are only 4: Background, main (the lines and the most text), highlight (the system name and selectors) and secondary (folder text and all other text elements). They are all declared as variables at the top of the theme.xml. So changing them is super easy.
Systemview:
Videoview:
Notes: Basic view looks the same but has no images of course. In Detailed view the box art is in the top right box (where the screenshot/video is)Grid view:
Todo:
- Decide what metadata to put on the right side. I personally don't care for them, but it looked too empty so I added genre and players.
Any feedback is welcome.

I always like to see clean, sleek, minimalist themes. Sometimes you just want to get where you're going without all the flash and this definitely fits the bill. This is something I would definitely use.
-
Nice work @EctoOne ! lemme know when its available and ill test it on my pi no problem.
-
I uploaded a test version (download link is in the first post).
- Changed the colors to grey variants and found some free fonts that I liked (See second image in the first post)
-
@ectoone: I like the idea of making a simple clean theme.
Re: fonts, you could have a look at Google Fonts (fonts.google.com). There are a few hundred fonts to choose from, and you're allowed to use them for pretty much anything.
-
@mattrixk thanks for the tip. I've been on that site before but it wasn't that obvious to me how to download fonts. I thought they were for supposed to be used embedded in websites. Figured it out though now.
-
@ectoone No worries. Glad you worked it out. I mostly used Roboto on my themes, but I used some fancier ones too (as you can see in my Core theme https://github.com/mattrixk/es-theme-core. I might actually finish it one day).
-
@mattrixk Huh, it's 9 months old and I can't remember if I have seen that before. Looks nice.
Anyways, I changed the fonts to go more with the basic line theme. Although I'm still not happy with the secondary font. But all fonts I tested have been either too wide to fit in the metadata section or too tiny to read. And I changed the colors a little bit, because some where to dark to read from a distance.
I also replaced the preview images in the first post. -
Update:
- It now has a complete text based carousel (Thanks again to @jdrassa for implementing that feature).
- changed the Carousel font
- changed the metadata font to the same as metadata label
- changed description font
- changed grid view to have the same look as the carousel (four games)
-
I think this might work for my R2D2 build I'm slowly working on. I'm going to have to grab it
-
@simpleethat if you change the colors it might fit. I just did a quick test, and you might need to change some font sizes.
-
@ectoone Oh man, once I get it finished I think that might be perfect
-
@ectoone Okay... I'm a little embarassed by this but how do I go about downloading it? Also what values did you get use for the colors?
-
@simpleethat When you click the link, there is a green button on the right side that says 'Clone or Download'. Hit that and a small window appears under it with the option 'Download ZIP'.
And I don't quite understand your question about the color values. Do you want to know what values I used for the white/blue variant or where to input them or what?
These are the values for the white/blue variant and they have to be put at the top of the theme.xml file in the ZIP. There should be a section for it.
<backgroundColor>E0E6F2</backgroundColor> <mainColor>0F2088</mainColor> <highlightColor>CC3433</highlightColor> <secondaryColor>888888</secondaryColor>

@ectoone Thanks, you assumed correctly about the blue/white values. I think this is going to be perfect for my R2D2 build
