Dreamcast (Reicast) Gaming Issues

Hi All..

Will keep this short.

I had some friends over last night and we decided to emulate some 2 player Dreamcast games last night using:

RetroPie 3.8
RPi3
all game files in .cdi format loaded in the dreamcast folder in the roms directory
dc_boot.bin and dc_flash.bin loaded in the BIOS folder
2 bluetooth PS3 controllers

This is what I found:

Each game would load with that initial screen asking to input the date and time.

Game emulation:

Crazy Taxi - Gameplay fine, sound quite glitchy
Dead or Alive 2 - Crashes after the initial menu - no gameplay at all
Loony Tunes Space Race - Doesn't run at all
Mortal Kombat Gold - Fantastic emulation
Soul Calibur - Gameplay great, glitchy background artifacts
Star Wars Episode 1 Racer - 2 player split screen a complete mess - unplayable
San Francisco Rush - 2 player split screen a complete mess - unplayable

So I guess what I'm asking is two things:

Are my findings in line with what others are experiencing?
Are there any recommendations for getting things to work better (particularly the splitscreen two player situation)?

What the emulator got right, it did fantastically! Expecting great things from this one!!

Hello,

You can't play with a split screen. It's not possible for the moment.
But you can use multiplayer when all players are on the same screen (DoA2, Soul calibur, power stone 2, Marvel VS capcom...)

You can overclock your PI, it will be better (for video, and artifacts issue)
This is my configuration for exemple :
#overclock
arm_freq=1300
over_voltage=4
temp_limit=80
core_freq=500
v3d_freq=500

You can use a better config, but you have to do some test with temperature.
If you want play DoA2, you have to use a US rom. Eur don't work. And in a second time, you have to flash file (if you cannot control character during a figth - you can find this issue with google)

If you want, this is some game I have test (note : al game have some visual issues on video):
Crazy Taxi 2 : some issue with sound, but you can down music volum and it's fine
DoA2 : Good, but you have to use an US rom
Legacy of Kain : Good
Power stone 2 : No issue and multiplayer work fine
RE : code veronica : some artifact without OC and one time I go a back to emulationstation
Grandia 2 : no probleme, I go 30 hours of game and it's still working (great game)
Skies of arcadia : Ok, but I just play 10 minutes
Snow surfer : work fine
Sonic adventure 1 : OK
Sonic adventure 2 : sound issue
Suzuki extrem racing : work fine
Trickstyle : work fine, but hard gameplay
Zombie revenge : work fine

PSO : work, but it's lag
Guantlet legend : to slow
Virtua tennis 1 and 2 : work but you don't have shadow for ball and some artefact for character selection
Tokio highway challenge 1 : work
"" 2 : work but you don't see speed and map

This is exactly the sort of feedback I was looking for. I already have overclocked my Pi3 which overall seems to help things out quite a lot in general.

My DoA2 was the PAL version. I will look for a US rom. I will also give some of the other titles you mentioned a go. :)

I am having issues with Dreamcast/Reicast controls. I setup universal controls that work just fine on SNES and Megadrive, but Dreamcast is all screwed up. Anything special I should be doing?

read the second post, i found it to be very helpful.
