Roms and retropie settings dont start
-
Emulationstation starts fine but when I start a rom it goes to console then back to ES. ES will not even start raspberry -> audio settings or setup script ... ect it all does the same. I followed this tutorial the only thing I did wrong was I started a bin install then upgraded the script then I did another bin install. Also I'm starting ES from a script by cec-client.
RetroPie-Setup ver 3.8.1
uname -a Linux raspberrypi 4.4.11-v7+ #888 SMP Mon May 23 20:10:33 BST 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux
Emulationstation 2.0.1a
cat /etc/os-release
PRETTY_NAME="Raspbian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie)"(from Raspbian lite)
NAME="Raspbian GNU/Linux"
VERSION_ID="8"
VERSION="8 (jessie)"
ID=raspbian
ID_LIKE=debian

edit: I think my problem stems from not starting ES from the Display environment if that makes sense. After starting on ssh like this: sudo runuser -l pi -c /home/pi/GoogleDocs/Scripts/retrostart.sh i get:
lvl0: from theme "/etc/emulationstation/themes/carbon/retropie/theme.xml"
XML parsing error:

^[[B^[[B^[[B^[[B^[[B^[[B sh: 1: cannot open /dev/tty: No such device or address
Starting using ssh to start emulationstation I get the launching game... on the client and a black screen on the pi -
It needs to be started from a terminal - I suspect you are not doing that? eg if starting from Kodi you need to do some things like this (from retrosmc - https://github.com/mcobit/retrosmc/blob/master/scripts/retropie.sh#L35)
What rom ? What are the contents of
/tmp/runcommand.txt
after launching ? -
@BuZz
there is no /tmp/runcommand.txt it doesn't get that far. Its weird because if start it manually /opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 PORT doom it works just fine but when i start it through ES I get "Unable to open /dev/tty" -
That's because you didn't start Emulation Station from a terminal as mentioned in my previous post.
