Delay after starting game
-
I'm running RetroPie 4.4 on a Pi 3. I have everything working with a USB controller. I tried tonight setting it up with a PS4 controller. I couldn't get Bluetooth to directly connect, so I had to install ds4drv. After that, everything started working as expected, with 1 weird issue. I can navigate around in RetroPie with no issues. There is no input lag. After I start a game - doesn't seem to matter which emulator - the controller buttons aren't recognized at all. However, if I let it sit there for 1-2 minutes, everything starts working. After this initial delay, everything is perfect. There is no input lag or anything. After I quite the game and go back to RetroPie, navigation still works perfectly. When I go into another game, I have the same 1-2 minute delay before the controller is recognized again. Based on the light on the controller, it is staying connected the entire time. I'm not super concerned if this is strictly related to the PS4 controller - I'm mainly using it as a test. I would like to get one of the 8bitdo controllers though, so I'm hoping it won't happen with that. Has anyone else experienced this? Thank you in advance.

Are you using an original PS4 controller or a replica ? I didn't see this problem with the DS4 controller on RetroPie and I didn't have to install any additional driver to make it work.
As for the other question, I have an 8Bitdo - the older SN30 model - and it works without problems with RetroPie. -
@mitu It's an actual Sony PS4 controller. I've had my unit for a couple of years, so it's at least that old, but it is a real controller. Glad to hear there aren't any issues with the 8bitdo controllers since I'm planning on those being my long term solution.
