Hi. I have a pi3+ and retropie works great. Until the 4 comes it is a little underpowered for N64 etc.

Sorting old boxes I found a old windows PC (Intel Atom 1.66ghz & 2gb ram) & thought I could use that for my cabinet as Win7 was groggy & win10 to resource hungry (always 99% in idle)

I tried the jessie distro & retropie installed & ran perfectly but no emulators would load (even basic ones like a Mega Drive).

So I flashed it for SparkyLinux GameOver edition (but also tried Debian 9 & LDXE in between).

RetroPie PC didn't install and it appears from the log to not be compatible.

I tried to install EmulationStation instead and everything starts ok following the step by step but eventually installing but eventually then errors out.

      make[1]: *** [es-core/CMakeFiles/es-core.dir/all] Error 2
Makefile:149: recipe for target 'all' failed
      make: *** [all] Error 2

Any suggestions? I'm flexible on distro's as long as they are lightweight but don't want to flash every linux build if I can go straight to the one that works. I also tried lakka from a USB but it wouldn't boot.

I tried retroarch on Sparky and it didn't work but I prefer the ES GUI.

      Thanks Mike

@hockmiester I’m doing roughly the same as you. I tried Raspbian for PC at the weekend and most emulators installed but it fell over on Mupen64, Mupen64 plus and Mame 2010. I was recommended to try Ubuntu, which I did this evening. Everything compiled and installed apparently without problems. I haven’t tried putting any rims in or running any games yet, but it looks promising.

@hockmiester Use a supported distro - Debian/Ubuntu (or an Ubuntu spin off like Xubuntu/Lubuntu) and try again to install RetroPie.
