MAME ROW stands for MAME Random Of the Week. We randomly select an arcade game from the 0.78 MAME Reference Set to play on the week. The idea is to play games we've never played before, interact with other forum members, post hi-scores, share game strategies, fun facts, and (the most important) HAVE FUN!
Notes:
-
We usually post hi-scores screenshots after playing with only one credit. If you used more than one credit, please mention it on your post.
-
There's no need to use RetroPie to join the MAME ROW! You can play it on any platform you want.
-
Feel free to post your hi-score (or any content about the game) anytime you want on the previous rounds topics (link below).
Every Monday we create a topic at the "General Discussion and Gaming > MAME Random Of the Week" forum section with the 3 random games to be voted. And on Wednesday we check the result.
These "rules" are constantly being improved!

I thought this time maybe a different genre than a shmup. But seeing Parodius in this list, its a must have on my side. I played Parodius on the Snes on old days and its one of my all time favorites. A great game.
Raimais looks like a sort of Pac Man game, interesting but nothing special. Would not mind to play this too.
About Heart Attack I don't know what to do there. Filling all lines with the yellow bullets (or balls...)? This would be the opposite of Pac Man. But looks too old and boring to me. I don't think I would want play this game longer sessions for highscore.
I didn't test any games here, just had a brief look at these videos.
-
Parodius rules! Clearly my choice this week.
-
It'd take some heavy duty competition to beat Parodius. Funny, I was just thinking about it the other day.
-
This week's winner is Parodius DA!
-
My humble score as first-time Parodius player, first attempt, is 64,000.
I lost my first life middle of the second stage and then it went all downhill.
-
Wow, this game really is a trip. Amazing. As per usual, I wish I didn't suck at shoot'em ups so much, so I could see what madness/beauty occurs later.
So far slightly higher than pj (72500), but am sure some real arcader can beat that fast
Yes, I think this is a Boss lady :D
-
Oh I forgot how tough this lady is. I only slightly beat you. This will be a weekend how it should be.
77000
Dying at the lady is not very helpful, as you don't get much points if you do this part again.„Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.“ - Bruce Lee

Does any picture of the cabinet exist ? I wasn't able to find 'em.
-
Managed to top it slightly (87800) yesterday by maximizing profits, before the lady boss inevitably stomped me to oblivion. The thread-the -needle gameplay she requires is too much for my frail nerves (and battered Dualshock).

Not sure if I understand you right. Using Google with "Parodius Arcade Cabinet" there are ton of pictures.

If you look close, you'll notice that none of the pictures (at least that I see) are of dedicated 'Parodius' cabinets. The closest thing seems to be the generic, glossy white cabs found in Japanese game centers.
@UDb23 Could it be that the game had no dedicated cabinet?
-
@mediamogul @udb23 Oh, didn't notice that. Sorry then.
Maybe it is in this collection here: http://www.progettosnaps.net/cabinets/
I don't have this currently, so can't tell it. -

Good idea. It's worth taking a look at. I have a complete set of cabinet snaps from 0.139 and it's not in there, but it may have been added since.

Stop chatting about cabs and get playing :D I need some motivation.
I've cranked it up to 97100 (two words: bell farming) but that's about that probably. The lady is just too much. I think you don't even need to kill her, just survive her stomping around... -
@youxia Ah no, you can't kill her. You just survive.

unfortunately, probably you're right.

Ha! I hear ya. I seriously considered it this week, as I love 'Parodius', but all my attention is currently set on getting better at 'Stargate/Defender II'. It's kicking my tail, but I'm too addicted to give up.
-
seems Parodius series used candy cabs.
-
@youxia You asked for it.

Died once at the lady. The enemies there are still my problem. Made it to stage two and had a good run. But if you die there where I did, you are almost lost without your upgrades. Look at the position there, how to shoot upwards without upgrades. -.- You have to get close, but its risky. Anyway, good luck. You will need it. ;-)
