stuck on boot screen
-
hi i am new to pi and retropie but so far i have put the image onto a sd card and put it in the pi, the retro screen loads, controller config screen (i press f4 has i do not have a controller yet) then it goes to the boot screen...i have expanded the file system did some updates /dev/root is your main partition. Then, I would recommend to update and upgrade the existing APT packages with
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
After that, we install the needed packages for the RetroPie setup script:
sudo apt-get install -y git dialog
Then we download the latest RetroPie setup script with
git clone --depth=1 https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup.git
but still end up stuck on the boot screen where it has pi@retropie:
now i am stuck what to write to get me too next stage i can not find any help anywhere...they just go from controller config straight to the main screen.thanks in advance

@flashmaster instead of pressing f4 configure your controls for your keyboard. It will function even if you don't have a gamepad. Type
emulationstation
to get back to it. All the above steps you posted are unnecessary -
Thanks its working now just on the fun bit of trying to get the commodore and spectrum on there..i did the full setup in the system menu but i saw no changes and nothing added so i am adding Manual started it about 5:45am this morning and now is 12 and still installing hope it works.

@flashmaster they are already installed if you used the sd image, a source installation is not necessary. This is all explained in the documentation:

thanks herb, yes i got it working and added games for some reason i can't add all the spectrum games but did all the c64 with no problem. my only new issue now is the controls...spectrum the controller i have works fine but not easy to get back to the retropie menu...c64 controller does not work and keys are so scatted i don't which to press and only way to return to retropie is to unplug the pi.
at least i am almost there :)
