I'd like to make it so that if the pi is left without any input from any controller for let's say 10 minutes, it would automatically return to the emulationstation game selection menu.
I'm trying to mainly achieve this for nes games running through retroarch so I think it would have to be some retroarch option.

You might be able to do this with something like jslisten, but there isn't anything like you want native to RetroArch.

@uumas You said "I'm trying to mainly achieve this for nes games running through retroarch so I think it would have to be some retroarch option". Are you just looking to pause the game ? You can just press SELECT + X and the game will pause in the exact spot forever. Returning to ES and the quote above are two different things. Just asking :-)

I believe he wants an automated routine to exit RetroArch after a period of inactivity.

@mediamogul That's what I thought too, but then he asked about it occurring only during running nes games made me think. Why only during nes games and not any other emulator ? Unless he is mimicking an nes classic. The OP didn't give much details.
