OK, I think we have been overcomplicating
This works for me on the command line:
hypseus.bin singe vldp -script ~/.daphne/timegal.daphne/timegal.singe -framefile ~/.daphne/timegal.daphne/timegal.txt -homedir ~/.daphne/ -datadir ~/.daphne/This doesn't
hypseus.bin singe vldp -script ~/.daphne/timegal.daphne/timegal.singe -framefile ~/.daphne/timegal.daphne/timegal.txt -homedir ~/.daphne/So, it's the
-datadirthat is needed.My fault I should have put
-datadirin the first version of the new daphne.sh script.No need for symlinks, or

So take the daphne.sh that is there now above, move all the symlinks and subdir out of the way and try that.
Give:
cat /dev/shm/runcommand.logFor anything.
I need to see the full output to see what emustation, or whatever, is actually doing...

Can you also give the output of your timegal directory:
ls -al /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/daphne/timegal.daphneWould be useful to see the structure is the same as mine.

@darksavior I'm fairly certain you can't create symlinks on FAT32. There is a thread here:

Correct, you cannot create symlinks on FAT32. The filesystem doesn't support it.
You can however, duplicate the data, i.e. copy
timegal.daphneastimegalinto thesingefolder.Yes is doubling the amount of disk space, but I presume you have the same issue with
lairanddle21oraceandsaewhich use the same data for different versions of Dragons Lair/Space Ace ?You could also save space by linking them:
ln -s lair.daphne dle21.daphneWe are down to individual user cases now.
There is a way around it but wasteful on disk space.

No, I do not have that issue with dragon's lair or space ace. I have only one folder for each game calleddle21.daphneandsae.daphne
