      Hi All,

Following a clean installation of RetroPie last night I saw that the retropie_install.sh script now has a more comprehensive, but very different, menu structure. As a result, I've written a new guide:

RetroPie Manual Installation Guide, including the Version 4 Setup Script Revised Menu Structure

The reason being, in place of the menu with the familiar "Binary-based installation (recommended)" option, we now have:

      • Manage Packages
      • Setup / Tools
      • Uninstall RetroPie
      • Update RetroPie-Setup script
      • Perform Reboot

I had previously written a brief manual installation guide as part of another article, but the changes are extensive enough to warrant this more comprehensive guide, covering installation via the new menus, including an overview of what each contains.

      Topics Covered

      Manually Installing RetroPie
Obtaining and Installing the RetroPie Setup Script
Running the RetroPie Setup Tool: Original Incarnation
Running the RetroPie Setup Tool: Version 4.0 DEV
          Managing the RetroPie Core Packages
          Installing the Main Emulators
Installing Optional Packages (Emulators and More)
Installing Experimental Packages (Emulators and More)
      Post-Installation

@RetroResolution I appreciate the more thorough review. Though as it's still in active development there may be a few things still subject to change ;)

@herb_fargus That's fine, it's always a bit of a challenge to keep the documentation up to date!

I added a "quick install" menu under packages also (does the same as installing everything from core and main section"

@BuZz Excellent - I'll update the guide; I have a Pi 2 sitting here that I'm now using to grab the latest versions of RetroPie so I can always update it without risk of breaking my working Pi 3 installation.

maybe I should call it something else. as on a source only platform like PC or ODroid-C1 it won't actually be very quick ;-) Although I mention that in the help.

@BuZz tricky. Maybe you could offer a couple of options?

'All-in-One' - similar to the previous 'binaries' install; core, and all other emulators - libretro and non libretro

'Main Emulators' RetroPie Core plus libretro emulators (plus the non libretro pifba, mupen64 and mame). I'd shamelessy hope that Hatari could make it in there too!

I prefer to minimise server bandwidth and try and get people to think about what they want to install - there is a lot of stuff in optional now - so I think it is better that they go there and manually install (they can install all if they want from optional - but it's probably not what most people want).

The new images will only come with core and main pre-installed. So this is the equivalent of the quick install. One of the things behind the re-organisation was to reduce the amount of stuff installed by default, but have easily installable optional packages.

Hatari is left out as it requires some manual configuration in some cases, but once you have your selection of chosen emulators installed, you can just update them as needed.

@BuZz that all makes sense, thanks for the reply.
