.lha files

I have retropie running on a raspberry pi 3, i have installed amiberry with WHDboot. Everything is working fine controller, emulator etc but although it will run .uae files it just flashes and gives black screen with .lha files. my question is do i need to unzip these files somewhere first or jut drop them into my amiga roms file with winscp. assistance appreciated
-
@affleck001 Transfer the
.lha
files zipped as they are.Have you added the kickstart roms? More info: https://github.com/midwan/amiberry/wiki/Kickstart-ROMs-(BIOS)
-
@dudleydes
Yes all kickstarts are in place, I have one file showing as .zip and it plays fine, if I change it to .lha it doesn't play . -
@affleck001 What are the contents of the
.zip
. file? If it's a.lha
file, then that's fine. The Amiberry launch script will unpack the zip file and Amiberry will load the.lha
.EDIT: The contents of the zip don't necessary have to be the
.lha
file. As long it contains the slave file specified inwhdload_db.xml
, then the zip should run fine. -
@dudleydes these are 2 examples of what i am talking about, the first one works and the second one doesnt
any assistance would be most greatly appreciated
-
@affleck001 I believe you may have the images the wrong way round, Hellraisers works but End of the Misery doesn't. I say this because the former is listed in
whdload_db.xml
whereas the latter isn't.Is End of the Misery a demo? If it is, it may not be supported currently in Amiberry. You can raise an issue to see if support can be added at https://github.com/midwan/amiberry/issues
-
@dudleydes hellraiser defiantly doesn't work, the other one I have only played for a few minutes so don't know if it is a demo.
-
@affleck001 this may sound like a stupid question (coming from someone who is still using the original xbox crystal) but I have seen this line quite often WHDload_db.xml, what is, where is and what do I do with it. Than you
-
@affleck001 Not sure what's happening. Amiberry does create debug reports for each game you have launched. You can find them in the
/opt/retropie/configs/amiga/amiberry/whdboot/save-data/Debugs
folder.The
whdload_xb.xml
file, which can be found in the/opt/retropie/configs/amiga/amiberry/whdboot/game-data/
folder, contains game-specific preferences that Amiberry uses when loading a game. It shouldn't be edited in any way as it will be overwritten whenever you update Amiberry. If there are game-specific settings you wish change manually, then this can be done by creating a.whd
file as described here. For more info on the WHDLoad Booter, it's worth checking out the FAQ. Of interest may be the section on unsupported WHDLoad packages where it mentions
The booter has been designed for compatibility with the 'RetroPlay' pre-installed packages.
These are the packages, which come in
.lha
format, I have used without issue. It may be worth checking these out.Incidentally, End of the Misery is a demo.

@dudleydes cheers, will give it all a look
-
@affleck001 pain in the butt again, i have uninstalled and reinstalled amiberry, i notice the games that work show in the roms file as an uae. file wherever the games that dont worjk dont have this file, is there a way to create it, thanks in advance.
-
@affleck001 It is possible to create a
.uae
file for a game from the Amiberry UI. In theConfigurations
section, you'll see a list of existing RetroPie.uae
files,rp-a500.uae
andrp-a1200.uae
. At the bottom of the screen, check the name matches your game and then pressSave
. The.uae
files are saved in/opt/retropie/configs/amiga/amiberry/conf
.If you haven't already done so, I highly recommend that you find Retroplay's WHDLoad packs for maximum compatibility rather continuing your pursuit of getting
.zip
files working when they may just not be compatible. See this note at the Amiberry FAQ. -
@dudleydes making some progress, managed to get games to load and work, problem I have now is that it does not remember my kickstarts and I have to manually insert them everytime, obviously something fone wrong or missed (I have renamed to kick13, kick31 etc), sorry for wasting so much of your time
-
@affleck001 There does seem to be an issue in Amiberry regarding symlinks to kickstart files getting broken. To fix, you can try the steps detailed by an Amiberry dev in this post.
I believe the step to delete all symlink files refers to
kick34005.A500
andkick40068.A1200
that can be found in/opt/retropie/configs/amiga/amiberry/whdboot/save-data/Kickstarts
.There's no need to rename as symlinking for the WHDLoad booter doesn’t care what the file names are.

@dudleydes thanks for all your help finally got it working by converting zip to lha
-
@affleck001 said in .lha files:
thanks for all your help finally got it working by converting zip to lha
Care to share how exactly? :)
-
To my experience and help i got here, all is related to symlinks, if they are build wrong some roms will never runs.
Amiberry can run lha files directly without issues.
I've resolved only putting kickstart roms on amiga folder (under BIOS), deleting bad symlinks and then rebuild them pointing Amiberry specify to that folder.
