      First the rundown:

Board: Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+
PSU: Pandakit 5V 3A Micro USB power supply
Retropie version: Updated to 4.4.2 (as of 3 days ago)
Built from: Downloaded from website, burned onto micro SD card using Win32DiskImager (retropie-4.4-rpi2-rpi3).
Micro SD card: Sandisk 64 GB Ultra UHS-1
Controller: Picade X Hat + Wired Buttons and Joystick
USB Device(s): MIcro USB-to-USB cable (powering the HDMI screen). Note: I was able to install the Picade X Hat firmware onto the PiCade X Hat board via the terminal. This normally would activate the audio for all of the emulators as well (same link as above regarding audio/controller installation).

So that should do it for the rundown, the PiCade 2.0 can be found on the Pimoroni website here: https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/picade (same link that is in the Retropie "How to Build Your Own Retropie Machine" page).

So, here I sit, AdvMAME 3.8 (I noticed the version number got updated), does not produce any audio from the sole speaker inside the PiCade. The other versions of AdvMAME (0.8 and 1.4) produce audio from the speaker, but 3.8 does not. No matter the game I load with 3.8, whether inside the MAME-AdvMAME folder or the Arcade folder, no audio is forthcoming. I would like to resolve this problem and if anyone has any tips or a solution, I'd be much obliged.

Probably because Advmame selects the wrong audio device - HDMI maybe instead of the 3.5 audio jack ? Have you tried using raspi-config and setting the default audio to the speakers ?

@shockwave Though not using the PiCade, there is some advice on getting sound in AdvanceMAME 3.x in this post: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/17298/no-sound-in-advmame-3-7/2

Just got back to the forums and saw this. Thank you both for the suggestions. I have not tried raspi- config yet. I will try both suggestions listed here and report back the results.

Update: changing the advmane.rc from alsa to sdl fixed the no audio problem right away. Tested it by loading some games into the advmame folder, reloading emulation station and firing up the emulator with a game. Yes! Success! Thank you all. :-)
