I play at least 3hrs a day, more on weekends.

System Config: Retropie 4.4 with full desktop, RPi 3B, 256gb SD, 5v 2.1A 5,200 mAH USB battery. EasyMSX controller mounted with Pimoroni Hyperpixel 4 (non touch). Also running 4.6 on a 4gb Pi 4 serving as my primary desktop computer now.

I have always loved both video and tabletop games. The issue is that tabletop games require scheduling with multiple busy adults while video games (both retro and modern) can be happily enjoyed by just my wife and I. So, they've definitely become competitive for my most hobby time spent (perhaps tied for time with PC tinkering.)

I am currently working on the NES original Mega Man as I never beat it in my youth. Once it's done, I'm sure one of thousands of other retro games will take its place. I am also deriving a great amount of pleasure from modern PC and PS4 gaming too.

As far as hours spent, I don't get to play at all during weekends as I work for a hospital with long hours. During the week I would say I put in between 4 and 8 hours on gaming unless I have adulting to do that day. I don't sleep much, Mega Man is more important.

@beldar Yeah, after moving my core gaming group is not around anymore, so I don't get a lot of tabletop gaming in (having Power Grid withdrawal symptoms...). Solo video gaming will have to do for a while.

Certainly a lot for the past 2 years, but surprisingly (or maybe not) more on tinkering and developing than playing, which feels kind of backwards :)

The last several month I didn't play much. I may have finished the one or other game, but in fact I was more busy with searching for new/old games and systems to add to my Pi. But I think I am on a point now where I actually will start playing some more. I think regularly 1hr per day would be realistic to me, as I play some modern games too. Depending on the games (fun game discovered, an oldschool jrpg, multiplayer or highscore competition) I play, it could be 3hrs per day too.

Not much. I spent most of time with RetroPie trying to make things work, scrapping game data, organizing my library, making sure every single game works perfectly. But when it comes to playing... it's not as entertaining as it used to be back then.

@spiky Funny, for me it's actually more entertaining than it was back then (not all games of course; some have aged badly).
A lot of games used to be frustrating, but now with save states I can save the games where ever I want! Now games feel more like Hotline miami does... instant respawning for just one more go. :-)
Also some games I save at favorite points (certain opponents in Street fighter III or tracks in a racing game) so I can jump straight to the good bits..

I don't play as much as I used to do though... maybe 30 minutes / 1 hour on average a day. I completed my build a while ago, so it's all about gaming these days..no more tinkering /updating etc..

Pi 3B , 64 GB Sandisk ultra flashdrive, 19 systems, 872 hand picked classic gaming gems :-) Dual shock 4v2

@bobharris I'll 'train' games that way. That is how I learned to dodge fire from the 2nd and 3rd bosses in Donpachi. The fourth one with the giant red globe shots though...

I used to be a bit like this at first. The obsession with getting it all perfectly right can go too far. Now though I'm happy enough with my set up and spend way more time playing than I do tinkering. I'm definitely more like Bob above now. Much more joy to be had in actually playing, especially as the quality is so high. The only downside I can think of is that now I've got everything nice, I'm very reluctant to upgrade.

I think though I'll wait for the next image release and finally buy the new B+. Hopefully by then someone will have finally released a quality Mega Drive case for the Pi.

                          I can wish...

@ranma Yeah I'm still on Jessie so it would give me a lot of trouble going to the 3B+ . Also every game I have runs pretty much flawlessly so there is no need for me to upgrade...it could actually get worse.
And with the recent additions of a favorite playlist, and last played list , I can't think of any other features I currently miss.

I tinker a lot with new ways to play the games. I have built 3 Raspberry Pi RetroPie systems and they all work a little differently and have different selections of games/controllers. I think I have spent a lot more time configuring than playing when it specifically comes to the Pi.

However I do play games a lot. We have a lot of ways to play.

                                • NES, SNES, N64, Atari 2600 and Intellivision actual consoles with loader carts. Playstation 2 with Free McBoot and HDD. Modded XBox with CoinOPS 8 (which I haven't booted since I bought it).
                                • CFW Playstation Portable PSP 1000 for emulation on the go.
                                • I also own a Panasonic 3DO, Playstation Vita, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 3 and XBox 360.
                                • The kids(mid-20's... GET OUT ALREADY) 😋 bought their own Playstation 4 and XBox One so we have those in the house as well.
                                • Due to my side business of PC Repair I personally have no less than 4 laptops and 3 desktops with emulation on them in case I get bored waiting for Windows 10 to load and update at a client's house.
                                • Pile on to that is the Arcade cabinet I have with an X-Arcade Tankstick, AMD-10 3.8GHz system and massive amount of USB controllers ....

Yeah, the family games here. 😍

To kinda answer the question - A good 2-3 hours a day goes into gaming. Not necessarily the Pi box but it's all gaming goodness to me and that's what we're here for! 😄

Oh the systems aren't in any cabinets. 2 are in flirc cases and one is in a Super Kuma 9000 case. I was planning on an X-Arcade Solo build but there wasn't any room in the case for anything. Will be doing a Duo or Tankstick build eventually with one of them.
