Also saw an option for disabling 8bitdo hack.
And do I need background enabled? No and No. Background re-connect is the default - I think - so you don't have to explicitly enable it.
-
Cool! Many thanks for the prompt answers. Cheers

After some fiddling around with RetroPie and the SF30 Pro I do have one problem.
If I do a Restart System from within Emulation Station I does not reconnect the SF30 Pro.So I changed the bluetooth mode manually to background and now it works after a reboot.
-
@mitu the first option is the default (think it's called that or similar). Background connect is a hack that should be avoided if possible. Most controllers should reconnect automatically.
-
Why is it better to avoid?
Should I expect problems? My SF30 Pro does not auto reconnect after a Restart System.
If I turn the controller on and switch the rpi on it does connect ok.
So it only happens when restarting. -
@panja because it runs a background script constantly and tries to reconnect every 10 seconds to all registered devices. This should not really be needed. My 8bitdo controllers connect fine without it.

@BuZz
Ok, I understand.Though I still have a problem with my SF30 Pro (v1.28 firmware).
When I do a Restart System it does not reconnect automatically and I'm presented with the No Gamepads Detected screen.
I have to shutdown the controller and boot it up again (start button) before it gets connected.Am I doing something wrong?

I don't think so. I also have a similar 8Bitdo controller (earlier model, not the Pro) and it's the same behavior. I also have a DS4 - which I haven't used in a while - that didn't seem to exhibit this behavior. I think it's how the controller behaves and since I don't restart that often - why would you ? - it's not something that's noticeable for me.
-
To be honest you are right.
Restart won’t be used a lot I think.
Thanks for making this clear to me. 😃 -
@buzz Which 8bitdo controllers do you use? Are these your primary? I bought and set up a pair of SN30s in January(they seem to be a discontinued version now, maybe for good reason?) for someone and they seemed to be fine for sidescrollers but were finnicky when charging. I want some low profile wireless controllers for travel to replace my ibuffalos but was curious if the Pro line is halfway decent for analog based games like N64 or PSX.
