Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime
Developer(s): TOSE
Genre(s): Action Adventure
Platform(s): Nintendo DS
No. of Players: 1 - 2 (Online Multiplayer)
Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime was released in 2005 in Japan and 2006 in the states (sorry Europe). This is actually the second game in the Slime-Mori-Mori trilogy of games. The 1st and 3rd games are Japan exclusive.
This game is a spinoff of the Dragon Quest series of games, sharing many things with the legendary RPG series. But this game isn't a turn-based RPG, it is a top down exploration game (think Zelda), mixed with a collect them all aspect plucked from Pokemon. Oh yeah, and tank battles, we'll cover that a little later.
In this game, you play as Rocket (or whatever name you want), the slime from the Dragon Quest series. You live in the town of Boingburg with your family and friends. But one day, the Piob come in. They destroy your land, poison your water supply, burn your crops and deliver a plague unto your houses! (Or they just kidnap everyone in your town except for you.)
The slime main character has the ability to launch himself around the world with his Elasto Blast technique (patent pending). You use this ability to break open the chests which contain your friends and bring em' on home.
Oh yeah, the tank battles, they are your main form of combat in this game. You fight in a giant tank, launching projectiles at the enemy tank. You do this until you drain the enemies tank down to zero.
Since this is the first DS game selected for GOTM, as well as the first game without RetroAchievements since the first one, this month will be a little different.

How in the hell do I play the game?
This game is a Nintendo DS game, the good thing is that it doesn't require anything fancy like the touchscreen or the microphone. So this is a perfect game to play on the pi. You will need the Drastic emulator, AFAIK it can still be found in the Retropie-Setup. It should be in the Experimental Packages section, if it isn't, let me know and I post a link to the emulator.
If you own the game already, then play it that way. The game is somewhat cheap, so if you want, you can buy it (NOT A REQUIREMENT, JUST A SUGGESTION).
Game of the Month Challenge
There is no challenge this month, like I outlined in the "Retrospective" post a few days ago, if the game chosen is not a retroachievements supported system, or the game doesn't have cheevos, the challenge will be to just play the game and discuss it.
Have fun, and don't take any crap from anybody!

@lilbud Do you have a filename for the rom?
-
@victimrlsh Use google to find the rom. Any version should work.
-
@lilbud Eventually found it. I'll give it a +2 on the 'cute' factor. :P

Did I mention this game is funny...cuz it is

That took a little longer than expected (my best time is 7 hours)
All 100 slimes rescued. All tank upgrades except 2. 10,277 gold. 0 deaths and 0 tank battle losses. All health upgrades. 48 items collected, 17 monsters, 34 recipes.
Total time: 9:45:41
I loved this game when I first played it, and still do today (8 playthroughs later). Funny dialogue and characters. The story is somewhat forgettable and the music is subpar, but still fun to listen to. Collecting all the slimes only gets you a special secret item and nothing more. The tank battles are also fun, but stupidly easy if you have the right ammo (most fights end up being 5-10 min.)
After the credits roll, you really don't have much incentive to play unless you want to collect everything and do the optional tank arena fights. You only need somewhere around 50 slimes to beat the game.
Since this game I picked because it's a favorite of mine, I'm probably the only one to play it (ala Mario 64 from this time last year) /s
