I'm highly recommending this. Best small display I've ever seen. Same height and only 1/2" longer than the pi 3 B. Includes standoffs and an extension header for the GPIO pins. The resolution is 800x480 in this small space. The colors are very bright and it can play 60fps video without any ghosting. It is also pretty cheap for what it can do, $40 from Adafruit. I got the non-touch version, because touch screen are the path to the Dark Side and I hate them with a passion. If you like them, the touch version is $10 more.

That's the good news, but there IS some bad news. This completely wipes out your GPIO pins, which many compact builds use for controls. You will need to use a USB controller. I'm currently using an iPazzPort mini wireless USB keyboard for my palmtop build (also recommended, but the SHORT duration auto power-off is REALLY annoying. Has a nice resolution to the mini touchpad though, and only $15 on Amazon)

System Config: Retropie 4.4 with full desktop, RPi 3B, 256gb SD, 5v 2.1A 5,200 mAH USB battery. EasyMSX controller mounted with Pimoroni Hyperpixel 4 (non touch). Also running 4.6 on a 4gb Pi 4 serving as my primary desktop computer now.
