      @mitu
      After figuring out I shouldn't be using the 64bit version for this, I got the screen working with sound. Now it's just the usual gambling of installing stuff that's not just roms and emulators in retropie. :v

      Thanks!

      @mitu I just tested and this will work just fine. emulation station will flip when launching through terminal on the desktop. Bummer that the setting does not stick after a reboot. This is for an arcade machine so it doesnt reboot often anyway. Thanks again.

      I was under the impression that tweakvc would work for RaspiOS Buster based systems, despite the comment on the project page.

      Other option would be to add a correct sdtv_mode to config.txt - see here - but that would enable it permanently and wouldn't be a toggle as it is with tweakvc.

      EDIT: it seems that the official firmware doesn't have PAL60 support, only some experimental versions which were beta tested as part of the Github topic mentioned above.

      @mitu Well, a small issue with that.... When I select Xorg, my screen completely glitches out. I can barely see anything. Like, a few pixels of red and the "Co" from Gameboy Color. And those are like, solid red and solid blue. Like as if it's #FF0000 and #0000FF. I actually had to completely reset my Ubuntu install due to this because I couldn't find the buttons to log out and fix it. This also happens if I choose "Try Ubuntu" on the Ubuntu install USB stick I have. I have genuinely no idea what causes this, I'll try to get some pictures of it.

      Thanks for that advice, yeah I did install openbox, but not lightdm, I did already set up an autologon pre-x, so I just use xinit to start openbox, this works nice.

      Now I just need to configure some things in openbox, for instance runcommand and retropie-setup scripts run in a very small window in the center of the screen (I have a 4K screen), I guess I need to force fullscreen for everything, set larger font un xterm and/or set higher dpi at the openbox level.

      But Redream and PCSX2 run full screen so I'm almost done, I'll try to add more stuff like xemu, kodi and whatever I can now that there is an x server, this actually makes everything a lot easier... My mistake.

      @Darksavior thanks for the advice. I think I'll return the 1440p monitor and get a 1080p one.
      I can always upgrade down the line.

      @3250847 said in RetroPie doesn't recognize my 7 inch display:

      I already edited my /boot/config.txt and added this line

      The line is not enough and it's incorrect. The configuration you should add to the file is:

      hdmi_cvt=1024 600 60 6 0 0 0 hdmi_group=2 hdmi_mode=87 hdmi_drive=2

      @MSP430 so far none of the systems you mentioned go over the resolution of your display. The PlayStation has a few games that go over, like tekken 3, or silent hill in the menus, but I’m sure it’ll look fine on a lower resolution display, if not a tad fuzzy and text might be harder to read in the higher resolutions.
      Just know that PlayStation and especially n64 will be iffy on a pi zero. Not sure about a zero 2 for PlayStation, but n64 on a pi4 has many performance issues which is much more powerful than any zero.

      @mitu Actually I've been trying to get that working. I also have a RPI 2 (?) or something, which I've installed Raspberry Pi OS on. If I put that card into my RPI 2 I can ssh in and I still couldn't get the screen working.

      If I put the same SD card (AFAIK the image you install is the same? I use Raspberry Pi Imager) in my RPI 4B I can't SSH in because the standard password somehow isn't 'raspberry'? I even reinstalled. Either way I can't get anything to show up on the screen with either of the pi's. I think it's DOA, but the company I got it from is not responding to me anymore.

      You need to give more details about your setup and what exactly have you tried - start with the info asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
      The Pi4 doesn't support the same rotation options as previous models, so editing config.txt will not work.

      @dankcushions Switching the resolution to Mode 16 (1080p 60fps) in RetroPie seems to have resolved the remaining issue. The game takes up much more of the screen and now looks visibly correct while paired with using "Core Provided" for Aspect Ratio in RetroArch.

      Thanks for your help, all! I'm still curious why my display settings got all changed around after upgrading to RetroPie 4.7.20, but I'll leave that to people smarter than me to figure out. :)

      Happy classic gaming, everyone! ^_^

      This kind of display will not work without additional configuration (in config.txt) - which is usually documented by the vendor or by the display's manufacturer.
      You need to find the make/model of the display you're using and if the vendor/manufacturer site has the configuration you need to add to your system.
