Famicom Disk System ( FDS ) and lr-FCEUMM
-
When you launch RunCommand for Famicom Disk System ( FDS ), the default and only emulator is lr-nestopia, however, lr-fceumm also support FDS, you can modify /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg
add ".fds .FDS" at NES extension section :<extension>.nes .zip .fds .NES .ZIP .FDS</extension>
then put FDS image to NES rom folder, it will show up at NES game list,
so you can choose lr-fceumm ( or lr-nestopia ) at NES RunCommand,
it means you can use lr-fceumm to run FDS.My question is, how can I put fds at /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fds folder,
and let lr-fceumm show up when I launch RunCommand,
( the default is only lr-nestopia, no lr-fceumm ), so that I can choose
lr-fceumm, and put fds images at seperate section.or how do I modify the command line at
/etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg<command>/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 SYS fds %ROM%</command>
how do I modify the above line to let it run lr-fceumm ?
Thanks a lot !

I've done this before and I'm reciting from memory, but I believe the following is all you need to do. Compare the
emulators.cfg
files in/opt/retropie/configs/nes/
and/opt/retropie/configs/fds/
. Next, add the line of text that deals with executing lr-fceumm from the NES file to the FDS file. Finally, while you're there, change the default to lr-fceumm and that should be it. -
@dewen does fceumm even run FDS games? I thought only nestopia did
-
@dewen mediamogul, You are great, it works !
Just edit
/etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg
locate the FDS section,
change the command line from "fds" to "nes"<command>/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 SYS nes %ROM%
</command>then restart system, after that, you can choose fceumm or nestopia from runcommand when you launcg fds game. You can check from RetroArch menu to see which emulator core is running. I feel fceumm runs a little smooth than nestopia.
-
@dewen if FDS games work with fceumm then we can add support for that
-
@herb_fargus Yes, FDS games work with fceumm, please add support for that, thank you very much !
It use the same BIOS file as nestopia. -
I just gave it a shot and can confirm that Famicom disk games do indeed work with lr-fceumm.

@proaudiosoft hello again Mr audio soft. Welcome to the new forums. Btw I added it to the setup script so you can just update your setup script and reinstall the lr-fcuemm binary and it will generate the FDS config so you don't have to do it manually.

Excuse me but when I try to play famicom disk system games in general it boots me back to the main menu. Im no tech wiz so I have no idea what to do. Do I have to do something with the BIOs to run .fds games?

You need the file disksys.rom and it needs to be in the bios folder. Fceumm cuts off video on the left and right side of the screen. Nestopia does not. I personally would use nestopia. Same with nes games. (Unless you are using retroachievements for nes games which only works in fceumm. Fds games dont support retroachievements so i would use nestopia)
