100% noob trying to be a geek, begging for help with Roms. Please......

@ucald4amarine Its not like it runs just a little bit too slow, you'd need a major overclock which the pi isn't capable of.
-
@jakejm79 copy that. I'll just tell my brother it's not working and that's will be the end of it. If he's not thankful for what I've built him then...

Im Back! Got a new one for you all.
Ive been trying to finalize everything on this build. Figured out all the games and gotten them to all work correctly and everything seems great. But, issues are starting to arise. In the game menus i have the game running in the description. So far so good, but... When the game is running the audio is very off. And will make the game video glitch and jump sometimes. And randomly, the entire system will freeze and Ill have to hard reset. I dont have any ideas what info I should list on here that would be helpful. other than i used the stephen selph scraper? -
@ucald4amarine Try to switch to the hardware accelerated video player in Emulationstation. Freezing could be an indication of an inadequate power supply.
-
@mitu 2.5 amp, boost to 3.0? I was considering as I think Ill need a fan anyways.
-
@ucald4amarine I should mention that its not for everything. its random roms such as the adventures of batman and robin. Most of the rest seem to run fine. But, again, if i leave it on there too long it sometimes freezes the thing.
-
@ucald4amarine Power: The numbers aren't everything. Even a 3.0 amp can be crap. I can recommend the official power supply. It's not very expensive and it's meant for the Pi.
Did you overclock your Pi? If so, do the freezes happen also on normal CPU speed? Without overclocking, there should be no need for a fan.
Videos: If only some videos cause problems, they may be faulty or in an incompatible format. I would recommend trying different videos to check that.
Does it make any difference if you change the option "Main Menu > Other Settings > Use OMX Player"?

@Clyde I currently have 2 machines running. Both stock from where I bought them. (Amazon canakits) my first build is the one that is glitching a bit. Only difference is that it currently has more games on it, and it also has the sound run through a headphone jack. (Something to mention is that it will also sometimes lose sound when I try to take it out of screensaver and a reboot is required.)
The 2nd one is working flawlessly. But, the scraper only got 2 games working on the screensaver. -
@ucald4amarine Is it an option to switch just the two Pis and leave anything else unchanged? Just to check if there is any hardware problem with one of them.
Did you try other videos for the games in question? There are videos of most games' attract mode on YouTube. You can recognize most of them by their length of about 30-40 seconds. You may need a browser plugin to download them from YT, though.

the scraper only got 2 games working on the screensaver.
I don't quite understand what you mean by that. Could you please explain it in other words?
-
on the machine that is runnning the vids flawlessly, there are only 2 games in the screensaver. Adventure and river run. The rest of the games have their images in the description but dont show up in the screensaver. As far as swapping the SD cards, I did do that and everything transfered over. So Im thinking that Ill have to rescrape everything as somhow I must have gotten a corrupted image.
-
Its doing it with about 50% of the games. I think its just gotta be a bad download on the scraper. Something must have been corrupted somewhere.
-
Decided to go ahead and do a full whipe of the SD. Start from scratch. It was my test version and has been through the wringer. Start from scratch and go from there.
-
@ucald4amarine The screensaver only shows videos or images, not both. So, if you only have (working) videos for two of the games, it's normal that the other games with only images won't show up.
Which scraper did you use?
It would be nice if you'd report on how the new image is working. I'm curious. :)
-
Did a complete wipe on the old system and its working flawlessly now. Although I have yet to run a scraper and try the screensaver, as Im currently at this second installing virtualmans 128 onto a sd card right now as it came highly reccomended and I wanted to see what the fuss was all about. But, I re ran the scraper for the 2nd build with only 2 games in the screensaver. It took a full 4 hours. (Had no idea I had so many atari and nes games on that poor thing...) and afterwards, its been working great. Only thing Ive noticed is that every once in a great while, there will be a sound hickup. Something like what I remember a scratch on a music cd would sound like. Its not often, and doesnt seem to repeat. But its there.

@ucald4amarine 3rd party images are not supported here. If you'd like support, then use the image from retropie.org.uk/download.
-
@mitu oh no. Not asking for support for virtualmans. I still plan to use Retropie for my personal. Just a curiosity point of interest for myself. Personally, I've been having so much fun with all the learning aspect that I want to keep going here. Virtualmans stuff may be good, but... There so much to learn here that, why would I leave it alone?
-
@ucald4amarine Then please stop referring to 3rd party images.
-
My mistake. Sorry
