      I read the wiki on the retropie for how to upload rom and I am having the worst luck figuring this whole thing out. Im on the brink of pulling my hair out or paying someone to do it.
      I have only gotten a few games to work. Every time I download a rom and make it a zip file and drop it into the rom folder like mame, it A, doesn't even show up or B, Nothing happens when you click on it. I seem to be dumber than I thought but good lord please help me!

          What system are you trying to add roms to? Not all of them accept zip files. Also, it sounds like you may have gotten MAME to work well, is that the case? Check out the RetroPie Wiki for each emulator and look at the area labeled 'Extensions'. That will let you know what file type each emulator supports. If '.zip' isn't listed, then a zipped file won't show up in Emulation Station.

          Edit: I misread, it appears you problem is only with MAME. The 'Managing Roms' link will certainly be of more use.

              Currently pulling roms from...

              You're gonna want to strike that sentence as soon as you can. Rom locations are seriously against the rules.

              Edit: With that out of the way, obtaining games piecemeal is not really a good idea. Known sets are a lot more reliable and for MAME specifically, you really need to read that 'Managing ROMs' link more closely.

                @mediamogul thanks. anyways do you have any other tips to help me here. I dont know what I am doing wrong. Overtime I see a youtube video they make it seem so easy as if you just drag and drop into the folders but clearly it is not that easy.

                  @jkristof

                  Start off with those last two tips and you might find things start falling together a little easier.

                    @jkristof MAME is the trickiest of all the emulators.

                    I'm not sure where you are finding your rom files, but there's not a single site that I can think of, where after the download, you would need to make it a zip file.

                    That's probably your first problem.

                    Second, if you are able to select a game, hold the A button to go into the menu options and change the emulator until the games works for you.

                    There's a few to choose from and many games only work on one specific emulator.

                    Also, using WinSCP is probably the easiest way to transfer files if you're using a Windows based computer.
                    https://winscp.net/eng/download.php

                    When using WinSCP, the default Username is: Raspberry
                    Password: Pi

                    To find your Raspberry's I.P. address, you can do that in the menu system when running Retropie.
