Detana!! Twinbee darker screen layer issue

For some reason this game on my rpi3b+ (all updated to the latest version) is really dark and dull/grayish, except for the HUD text with the scores etc that's in the correct brightness, on both the CRT (RGB Scart) and my LCD (separate SD cards due to resolusion configurations). Couldn't find a setting to fix this, using a color adjust shader also didn't look right as it was so dull to begin with. I've not had this issue with any other game (in the fba 2016 set). What can I do?
