Amiberry WHDLoad issues with load games
-
Hi,
I installed the latest version of Amiberry, Retropie, downloaded the kickstart roms and placed them in the correct folder, got games from the correct site, extracted the downloaded .ZIP files and copied the resulting LHA files in the correct folder, set the paths correct in Amiberry and did the re-scan of the paths.
Thing is, some games just don't load and I cannot figure out why, even after spending hours on reading WHDLoad manuals, forums etc.
After clicking on an Amiga game from Emulastation, I have:
- some games that show the Amiberry logo after starting, including the WHDLoad messages for searching slave file etc. and most of these games work Ok.
- some games that don't show Amiberry logo after starting and how no WHDLoad messages. After starting, I see a blank, white (kickstart) screen and after some short waiting, the games works Ok (for instance: IK+)
- some games that don't show Amiberry logo after starting and how no WHDLoad messages. After starting, I see a blank, white (kickstart) screen and then... nothing happens. Amiberry just seems to hang.
Since I got all of my games from the same site, I don't understand why some show the WHDLoad messages and others don't but do work well. Does this have anything to do with these games not being present in the WHDLoad_xml database file?
Main question is: how can I get these others games working?

@Maurits Amiberry does create debug reports whenever you launch a game. You can find them in
/opt/retropie/configs/amiga/amiberry/whdboot/save-data/Debugs
If these are not useful, then could you give the complete file names of a game in each category?
PS Please remove the source of your games as it breaks forum rules.

Hi,
Sorry for the delay. Here's an overview of games that work and don't work. Thanks for asking me this, because on creating this overview some things begin to make sense to me.... :-)
- Games that work & show Amiberry logo on startup (WHDLOAD)
- AxelsMagicHammer_v1.1_0432.lha
- Awesome_v2.1_0431.lha
- Games that work, kickstart screen appears and games run Ok (no WHDLOAD)
- IK+.adf
- RickDangerous.adf
- Games that don't work, kickstart screen appears and game does not run; white\black screen (no WHDLOAD)
- Flood.adf
- Statix.adf
While downloading all of the above games from the same site, in ZIP format, I didn't noticed before that some ZIP files contain .lha files and others contain .adf files. I reckon that only the. lha files are suitable for WHDLoad.
In the \devs.. folder, there is a log file that is created per .adf game I start. The log file for Flood.adf contains this text:
- Unsupported archive...
- Could not load system rom...
Does this indicate that I have some wrong kickstart roms? What is strange to me, is that the same logging is created for IK+.adf and RickDangerous.adf, while these two games do run Ok?
Kind regards,
Maurits

@Maurits Thanks for the info.
Amiberry is optimised for use with WHDLoad - check the documentation for ADF support. That's not to say that ADFs aren't supported as you have seen.
I only use WHDLoads so I'm afraid I can't help with getting the ADFs to run. You could try running the ADFs in uae4arm (Amiberry is a fork of uae4arm) to see if they are simply bad disk images.
The simplest solution may be to find WHDLoads for each game for maximum compatibility.

@dudleydes Yes, best way for me to proceed is to remove all of the ADF files and replace them with WHDLoads. I experimented yesterday with some new WHDLoad games I found; they all work well. Very nice to see that no disk swapping is needed anymore when playing multi-disk games! That is really nice. Here and there I needed to tweak my controller settings a bit, but that was all easy to solve.
Thank you for your time and help and thanks to everybody who puts effort in making Amiberry & WHDLoad such a great experience.
Greetings from a former Amiga 2000 owner :-)
