Hey guy, not sure if y’all can help, but I recently put together an XU4 build running the ORA RetroPie image.
My issue with video splash screens is 2 fold...

First, if I see one, the audio starts, then the video lags behind by a couple of seconds. Sometimes more.

Second, if I try to preview a splash video from the RetroPie setup, I get the following message at the bottom of the screen, then no video.

/home/pigaming/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/supplementary/splashscreen.sh: line 240: omxplayer: command not found

I’m a noob to all this.
All help is appreciated as always..

The splashscreen module is not active for non-PI systems in RetroPie - it depends on omxplayer, which is a Raspbian specific package.
The fact that is active in your image it means it has been added in the ORA image, but how it was made to work it's up to the image's creators - you should try and ask them.

The preview is not working because omxplayer is missing, which is only available in Raspbian (i.e. Raspberry PI) based systems.

I guess they need to update retropie-setup to not use omxplayer also.

it's a 3rd party image anyway, which we don't support.
