      I set up RetroPie 3.8.1 on a B+ and configured it. It was all working fine, with 2 SNES controllers. Next I ran a update and upgrade on the system and installed kodi from the experimental packages. That did not worked, but I could not see what the issue was since the Retropie setup screen deletes the output from the screen. So I have gone ahead and used apt to install kodi. It told me that some components could not be verified (or something similar) but I said Yes anyway. I started Kodi from the console and it was all fine.
      Now when I launch Emulation Station and I get this message:

      terminate called after throwing an instance of 'boost::filesystem::filesystem_error'
      what (): boost::filesystem::status: Permission denied: "/root/RetroPie/roms/ports"
      Aborted.

      I get the prompt back, but the pie seems to be dead, it is not responding to any keyboard inputs. Same if I reboot the pi.

      What did I do wrong?

        I think you ran the raspberry setup and installed Kodi as user root.
        Trying to fix this now for myself..
