Just a quick question for you. How do you change the way the game names are listed? For example in my MAME menu it says Pacman (Midway). I just want it to say Pacman. Other games like Defender say Defender (Green/white). I just want it to say Defender.

I changed the way it is listed on my previous Retropie build, but I can't find how to do it again.

Thanks in advance for you help.

With the game is highlighted in EmulationStation... Options > Edit Metadata... or something like that.

Alternatively I think you can edit the gamelist file directly. Might be quicker if you have a lot you want to edit.

Can't you just edit the file name too? I used PFrank to rename all of mine: http://www3.telus.net/pfrank/

Just use a regex like this to strip out the codes: \s((|[).*()|]) leave the second column blank to delete them
I also used a second step of \s.zip to be replaced by .zip

With most systems this wouldn't be a problem, but in mame, the actual file names need to be left alone.

Hello everyone. Thanks for the replies so far. Unfortunately, you can't change the file names in MAME. Also, changing the Metadata for each file isn't feasible when you have thousands of game.

There was a setting somewhere in Emulationstation that allowed you to use the "short" name to display in the menu. I just can't find where that is anymore.

                Anyone else have an idea?

                Thanks!

                  https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/scraper

Look under the section for ROM Names (Steven Selph's scraper). I think this is what you are referring to...?

@Concat I didn't use scraper before. I thought for sure it was a Emulationstation setting; however, that section looks like it will work for me.

I haven't tried 'scraping' on this new setup. I want to get it working before I try it.

                    Thanks for the help
