Hi Everyone. I have a potential head scratcher here. I love the TG16 or as it's known in Europe and Japan the PC Engine. However in RetronPie, when launching games, it seems to pick and choose which games to run, most run fine, but some (including R-Type, which is by the way the one I want to play most) just go to a black screen. This issue does not seem to be the result of region differences, since I can run some games from Japan and US without issue. Has anyone seen this? Any possible solutions?

        which emulator you using?
these all run .pce roms, the one in bold, is the one i use, it runs any .pce roms and .iso (pcengine cd),
some emulator are possibly in experimental set up menu. but as i say lr-beetle-supergrafx is the one to use.

        lr-mednafen-pce-fast
        lr-mednafen-pce
        lr-beetle-supergrafx
        lr-beetle-pce-fast

if your still struggling, your rom set needs changing, so look for no-intro-rom-sets

loom runs fine for me, using these bios SYSCARD3.PCE in the rom folder.
if still no, chech your cue file

@InsecureSpike hmm, I don't think I have it in the rom folder itself actually... I seem to be able to play the other CD games with it in the BIOS folder but I will try this out later :)

@ProxyCell open up your cue file in Notepad and make sure the iso name matches. It's case sensitive, if it doesn't match the game will not launch.

@InsecureSpike Ok thanks. I'm not sure which one I'm running, all I did was drop my roms in the appropriate folder. I will try your suggestion, thanks.

@InsecureSpike btw not sure if you realise (or perhaps you are just covering legacy code) but mednafen=beetle they are the same. Mednafen just got tired of people logging issues to them instead of the libretro team so the libretro team renamed all their mednafen based cores to beetle. we recently just changed the code to match upstream so all the mednafen cores will be named beetle in 4.0

@InsecureSpike I tried looking into your suggestion but the only emulator I can select is lr-mednafen-pce-fast. I then figured it wasn't installed by default so I went to install it as an individual binary from the setup script but it wasn't in there either. Is LR-beetle-supergrafx an experimental emulator?

Does anyone know how I can manually install lr-mednafen-pce (not fast) from the setup script? I'm under the impression that there is more then one emulator choice for the TG16 / PC Engine based on what some people are saying here but I seem to only have the lr-mednafen-pcs-fast version available to me. I'm running RetroPie v3.7 I believe. Not eager to update as I will have to redo a lot of configuration. Thanks.

@drake999 lr-beetle-supergrafx and lr-beetle-pce-fast are the only two. Lr-Beetle-pce-fast superceded lr-mednafen-pce. Mednafen-pce exist anymore (the upstream repo doesn't even exist)

@herb_fargus Ok, so if I were to update my setup script would I find this under the binaries selection sub-menu? I'm pretty sure I tried that and only seen "lr-mednafen-pcs-fast" but I will try again.

Hey @InsecureSpike - I finally got around to testing this. I have the syscard3.pce file in both the BIOS and in the PC-Engine rom folder too. Nothing has changed. I am still motivated by the fact that you have Loom working on your end though. I even tried renaming it to all capital-letters SYSCARD3.PCE and I renamed loom's files to just loom.bin and loom.cue (as well as inside of the CUE file) - it just goes to a black screen after the CD BIOS loads and I press the "run" button (start)

I have tried both emulators for the PCE as well.

hmmm, would you be able to share with me a checksum of your bin/iso file or even the filename that it was obtained as? I must have tried in the past hour 6-7 different copies of the game that I could find on google.

again, I am thrilled to hear that it is working well though!
