RetroPie 3.8.1 on Raspberry Pi 1 Model B Wifi Not Working

Hey Guys, My name is Muthu. I'm 11-years old and absolutely LOVE the RetroPie Project. I have a Raspberry Pi 1 Model B. I have installed RetroPie 3.8.1, I have had issues with my Wifi Dongle. It finds the wifi network,but even when I entered the correct credentials it said "Unable to connect to network", If I try to connect again the only options it shows are:

H Hidden ESSID

I re-installed the image a couple of times, but still no difference.

Once you get that error, please try rebooting and see if it connects - sometimes that error can happen if the connection doesn't happen quickly enough (It waits a set amount of time).

The above did not work, but thank you, and no I'm not on a Mac, I use Windows 10.

I was thinking it may be a known_hosts issue. I know how how to fix it on a Mac, but have read it can be tricky to fix on Windows. Perhaps test your Google-fu.

On a Mac...

I'm not sure if this is related, but I'm on a Mac and after re-imaging my rPi3 it will connect to a WiFi network but a FTP client or Terminal can't connect to the Pi.

Here are the steps I use to resolve the issue.

Back up then delete ~/.ssh/known_hosts from your Mac

Open Terminal

cp ~/.ssh/known_hosts ~/.ssh/known_hosts.bak

rm ~/.ssh/known_hosts

exit

Reboot Mac
Connect via ip address in ftp client

please post the output of these from the terminal (after configuring wifi and rebooting - ignoring the error when connecting)

ifconfig
iwconfig
sudo iwlist scan

and the contents of the file /var/log/daemon.log

please use a site like pastebin.com for larger logs.

Sorry if this is a n00b question, but, the outputs of "ifconfig" and "sudo iwlist scan" are quite large, how to use pastebin.com to show them to you?

I don't know what happened, but, after I viewed the logs and typed in the commands, the wifi worked! Thanks for all the help, you guys are awesome.

this is the problem. same thing happens on the pi zero. you can try forever then finally get it. to make it work the first time, when you get into the wifi setup unplug everything except your keyboard and wifi adapter. this means unplug your controller as well.

Did you try connecting directly to the LAN network to see if the raspberry pi gets any internet access?
