Cant load roms

Ive been trying to load some mame roms on retro pie for the past hour. They just wont load, or show up. I got them off [removed]. I unzipped the files, and using file zilla transeffered them to both mame folders as I had no idea which one worked. I then tried the scraper button, but that just pulled up a bunch of games I had never heard of. Im rather new here, and to computers in general, so, any help is appreciated. Also, what exactly does the scraper do

Update, the scraper replaced the pies configuration option icons and titles with that of random games like blade, also, if it helps, I am using a pi model b plus, retro pie loaded on a sixty four gig micro sd

Power supply-Phone charger
version, no clue, ran update and upgrade commands
Built from pre made image on retropie website
Usb wired keyboard and Xbox pro ex controller, wired plugged in
No error messages received

And sorry about the rom website thing, didn't see that on my first read through, and thought it would be relevant

@echotech26 Mame ROMs need to stay zipped. Arcade setup is a little more difficult then most systems, it's not as simple as downloading random ROMs and it just working. There are tons of different sets/versions out there.

Did you restart Emulationstation?
If you put roms in the folder with it running, they won't show up until it's restarted.
If your problem is they show up but don't run (or run poorly), follow the guide/documentation.

I kept the mame roms zipped, and they worked, yet i still have a few problems, for one, i dont now how to fix thescraper issue, which replaced the configuration icons with random video games. Also, a few roms while working fine originally, do not work at all now, coming up with a files do not exist message. And one rom, Galaga, for some reason wont work even though ive found most roms in the group. Any help, or advice

@echotech26 probably wrong romset. You need to read through the arcade documentation.
