      Hi,

Which is the best MAME version to run on a rpi3? I want a semi recent romset with Mortal Kombat etc. 0.37b5 does not contain Mortal Kombat.

If I only want one romset should which one has the best compatibility overall?
      lr-mame2003 romset 0.78
      lr-mame2010 romset 0.139
      advmame-.94 romset 0.94
      advmame-1.4 romset 0.106

Are there any advantages of running advmame over the libretro variants?

      Kind regards
      Carl

Might want to search around for the full 0.37b5 romset, it's what I run and I have MK 1,2 and 3

Everyone will have a slightly different answer to this question, because there are more factors than just the best ROM set. For example, trackball and spinner controls are supported differently (or not at all) in each emulator. I think the best overall support and configurability for mouse-style input is found in AdvanceMAME. Yet, I love recent libretro shaders that introduce CRT effects with curvature distortion, so I'd rather use an lr-core if I can get away with it. As a result, I find myself using a combination of emulators to get everything I want working they way I want it.

For me, 2003 seems to offer the best starting point for my Pi3, so that is my first choice, especially because I can also remap controls in-game as needed and control rotation and aspect ratio using per-rom configs. But, as I said, titles that require analog controls force me to switch to AdvanceMAME 1.4. I also like the old vector games, and buzz made a recent update to the advmame emulators that allow me to specify my display's native resolution for crisp vector lines.

As the emulators evolve, I'd like to shift more toward 2003. For instance, I'd like to see if vector in the lr-cores could take advantage of newer HLSL shaders that have bloom effects to really enhance the look of vector graphics at full-resolution.

Long answer, I guess, but for me, it's lr-mame2003 for as much as possible, and AdvanceMAME 1.4 for trackball/spinner and vector.

Ok, thanks! :) I have the 0.78 romset now and will have that as base and run lr-mame2003.

I use mame 2003 (romset.78). But for some games with NAG screen, I use lr-imame4all (the same romset .78).
