Control EmulationStation only with Keyboard, games with either kbd/controller
-
Hey guys,
I've set this up for my young son, but he's having real trouble navigating EmulationStation with the controller, so keeps accidentally switching emulators - I'm trying to work out how I would set up emulation station to only respond with keyboard, then use keyboard or controller for gaming.
Any thoughts on how this could be most easily achieved?
Many thanks

@scottharman you can just disable that menu if he keeps opening it (if that's what you were referring to)

Hi @herb_fargus
Will definitely do that anyway, the main issue is that he just has a lot of trouble selecting the games from the list, so tends to hit left and right on the d-pad when trying to scroll down to a game, so thought it might be easier if he used the cursor on the keyboard instead
Many thanks

@scottharman you can just remove the gamepad input for es_input.cfg if you only want the keyboard to work in ES

I know exactly what you're talking about. I have the same issue at home with young ones. When in the emulator game selection screen you can go left and right and it will switch emulators. You end up in a whole different emulator with a completely different game list.
Herbs suggestion works perfectly for what you want to do.

OK am i missing something?
I had the same issue with my Pi, it would often jump to the next emulator when jumping through the rom list,
I solved it by switching off quick system select in the UI menu, this basically makes it so that once in a rom list for an emu you would have to back out to emulator selection to change emu meaning no way to 'accidentally' jump to another emulatorAndrewPK

Thanks guys - will give that a try - many thanks!

Ok, I don't think you are missing anything. Your solution is much better as I had no idea this was a feature option. My little ones dexterity are not quite as good and they hit left and right accidentally changing emulators instead of only up and down in the gamelist with the controller D-Pad. Thanks for the tip! :)
