I'm interested in adding a startup / shutdown button to my Pi. I know how to do this but is it safe? When the button is pressed the code runs a "shutdown -h now" command. Does this safely shutdown EmulationStation as well or is there the possibility of corrupting something?

@Cyberonix It safely shuts down your pi, NOT emulationstation. Anything that emulationstation would save (scores, etc.) on shutdown might not be saved.

Still better than just pulling the plug though.

@Cyberonix It's not going to be enough to cleanly exit Emulationstation. But there's a script (created by @cyperghost) which handles this and a few more cases - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/17415/.
