      Hello.

Rpi 3B+ owner over here. Original power supply, latest Retropie image.

All my other PSX roms (the ones I've tested at least) work fine. A few minutes ago I decided to give Broken Sword I (Shadow of the Templars) a go, and I was presented with a game-related graphic indicating I should "Press x". Nothing I press registers. After several seconds, the game's intro begins, plays just fine, and then the same graphic again and the same thing happens again.

Could it be a bad rom? I don't remember having seen this graphic when I was playing BS on my actual PSX. Thank you.

Pi 3B+, official PSU, Retropie 4.4 official image, Xbox360 wired controller.

Check this doc entry, maybe you need to change the controller type from analog to standard.

That was it - thank you :-)
I remember reading this when I first set the image up, but that was a few weeks ago and it seems I forgot a few things since then.
