How to replicate the problem: First boot with new image while USB keyboard is plugged inHi
Maybe a silly question from a beginner:Earlier, as I installed RetroPie fresh from Image, my USB Keyboard worked "out of the box" in EmulatorStation (= main menu).
Now, if I install RetroPie completely new, with plugged in Keyboard on first boot, the Keyboard does not work in theEmulatorStation. There appears no Input device config Dialog to initial configure an Input device. Therefore I cannot choose any sub-menu with the Keyboard to configure itself. So I had no other idea as to plug in an USB game pad (Buffalo SNES) instead, restart RetroPie, configure the game pad in the Input device Dialog. After that, I was able to start the Input device Dialog again and to configure the Keyboard as a new Input device.
Why is the Keyboard not detected/working on first boot? Probably I'm doing something wrong, but what? :-/
Kind regards,

You could try replacing your batteries? Maybe it's a faulty/intermittent wireless dongle or keyboard issue? I have two K400's and they have worked with no issues every time with several versions of RetroPie.

Thanks.
That's what I expected; since nobody has the same issue, I can rule out any issue with RetroPie
So I have to check my whole Hardware. Thanks a lot,

I do really like the K400's they are a nice compromise mid-size wireless keyboard with the included touchpad make them idea for light living room gaming sessions with ScummVM and C64. :)

The "Configure Input" dialog appears when a) no input devices have been configured or b) only joysticks have been configured, and none are plugged in.
If a keyboard is configured, it will never prompt again.
If you did a completely fresh install, it will show the Input Configuration dialog - so you must have had an existing config for a keyboard already.

That's handy information. I didn't know that.

Also, on that screen, if you plug in a known controller, it should exit (might need to hold a button down)
