So, I just got out my old PC and transferred my MAME roms over to my Pi. I restarted Emulation Station and they didn't show up. I put them in /roms/arcade then moved them to /roms/mame-libretro (because I'm using lr-mame2003). Still didn't show up in Emulation Station.
      Details:
      Pi Model B v.1.2
KANO Computer Kit power supply (1.25v, 2.5a)
      RetroPie Version 4.4
      Used the pre-made RetroPie image
      USB Devices connected:
      HP Keyboard Model No. SK-2026
      Logitech Wireless Mouse M305
Power-A Xbox One wired controller Model 1247470-01
      Controller: ^^that^^

Don't worry, I put folders in, not .zips.

@dugo3number2 arcade ROMs need to be in .zip format to be recognized.

You might want to try launching MAME directly from the command line and see if you can get it working there first.

I believe the launch command will be something like this (taken from the MAME entry to es_systems.cfg made by RetroPie):

            retroarch -L `find /home/pi/RetroPie/emulatorcores/imame4all-libretro/ -name "*libretro*.so"` path/to/rom

(Some background information on this command: RetroArch is a multi-emulator "front-end" that uses other emulators as specially compiled, dynamically linked, libraries. the "-L libretro.so" is specifying the library to use.)
            Good luck!
If you want to find more information about Pi, you can check out my favorite site: Techgara.

@tezter Most of that information is useless now since I figured it out yesterday, but thanks for recommending Techgara.
