I have a 128GB usb flash drive where I'd like to store all of my Roms in logical folder names. I also like to switch between Lakka and RP from time to time to see which suits my needs as they both evolve over time... storing the roms on an external drive makes switching super easy.

I'd like the drive to be formatted as exFAT. I tried putting the drive into my RPi but the OS does not mount/read it. Is it possible to use an exFAT formatted USB drive directly connected to the RPi (not through SAMBA shares like others have been asking)? Is there a package I can download to add support?

      Would this guide work?

That guide should work, but you'll want to check it against the wiki entry to be sure.
