      Retropie 4.4.14
      RPI 3b+

Is anyone else having issues with Dosbox?

It has been doing this thing where the files become corrupted and are can no longer be executed.

Maybe I just need to get the ideas out of my head so I can see it clearly.

What will happen is at some unknown interval, only the executable files will become something else, they might be a few bytes off, smaller or larger or they will be around 284kb. The other files and data seem to be unaffected.

The dos files are on a USB drive, I am generally never accessing the drive or making changes while dosbox has a filesystem mounted. But I will sometimes leave an explorer window open in the samba share of the drive.

I thought about maybe the rpi filesystem checks are being problematic somehow, I think I can rule out that it is the USB.

Is it likely I have a computer virus, that is polling either my network ethernet, or open explorer windows (samba) while I am dosboxing? This I think could cause the dosbox filesystem or memory faults that would explain the systematic file breakage, and also possibly why it is only executables.

It is a New OS installation, it could have been compromised from before installation.

Yes I think it is a very bad virus, it is very small factor and seems to be reiterating its function across multiple executable files on my usb drive. This plugging it into my windows 10 desktop came up with many files compromised and quarantined.

Which makes me sad, because my last installation on my laptop was just fine. It was because of the memory limit on the 32 bit windows, and I had upgraded to a solid state drive, and I disabled the paging file just to increase the life of the drive.

I do have a Windows 7 disc from HP, and I do think I should have used this instead.

Thank DosBox, for bringing password stealing viruses to the light.

I though I had alleviated the issue but, it is seems that it persists. Leaving the following.

The files were corrupted by either dosbox-sdl2 or by the settings and game Albion.

The threats and viruses detected by Windows 10 were likely just corrupted files.

Possibly the raspberry has been compromised.

I always feel a special sort of dumbness when I realize I have imaginary enemies, and new technology.
