Booting into KODI black screen/flashing + freezing
-
Hey everyone
New to Pi and Kodi... I recently bought a 3.0 and installed retropie onto it, then installed KODI
Went to configure it and when I launch Kodi it processes and flashes the blue screen from KODI and has an audible bell, then goes black. If I wait, it keeps doing over and over again
I will try to get the crashlogs off the unit and upload
Im thinking its the resolution? I'm connected to a Sharp Visio 70" tv?
Pi Model: (B, B+, 2 B etc..) 3B
RetroPie Version Used: (3.5.0 or 3.6.0 etc..) 3.8.1
Built From: (SD Image, Binary, Source) SD Image (Apple Pi-Baker)
USB Devices connected: keyboard, ps3 remote
Controller used: ps3 remote, nondualshock
Error messages received: none
Guide used: (Mention if you followed a guide)
File: (File with issue - with FULL path) NA
Emulator: (Name of emulator - if applicable) - Kodi
Attachment of config files: (PLEASE USE PASTEBIN.COM FOR LARGE LOGS)
How to replicate the problem:How do I download my log? I can SSH in, just dont know how to pull the file?
I've been playing with it since I started this topic. Set video to 640x480 on all options and the screen went black, then finally loaded into KODI. I started to set up addons, but it froze
I have a log from that I can provide

@datamunk I believe there's a bug to do with using a PS3 controller that causes this. Try a 360 pad or a generic USB controller if you have one and you'll avoid this issue with Kodi.
Hopefully there will be a fix soon.

Yes it is a bug, I have the same problem.

For which part? The freezing in Kodi?
Ive tried to get higher resolution (1920x1080) but it goes back to crashing when loading Kodi... no issue within emulation station :\
I'll reset back to 640x480 and try using just a keyboard, see if that eliminates the freezing issue. I dont have another controller to try. Well, I have 360 wireless but I dont have the wireless receiver needed...

Actually was just messnig with and realized last night I got it all to work, somewhat.
I had the resolution set to 640x480 (the first option for resolution types) @ 32hz for both options/settings under Kodi menu when loading (press a button to configure)
With my ps3 controller it worked fine last night, got into Kodi, installed my add ons, streamed some content and was able to close/back out. Granted it didnt go back to emulator station when I exited Kodi, but thats not my concern (yet)
I changed the memory split to 340 and I think its at even 500 now, and still couldnt get a higher resolution to work than 640x480 for Kodi
Everything I'm seeing online says the pi should support up to 1920x1080 :\ I just dont know what settings are needed to achieve that
Hell... it could even be less, just not 640x480 lol. When I played a movie it was in high resolution, just not the kodi interface

I don't think there is a bug with PS3 gamepads, at least mine is working fine, it is the original one. RetroPie 3.8.1.
Relatively to GPU memory, 160 is the minimum to play fullhd videos, 256 MB is the recommended for PI 2/3, never saw a case that you need more. 1920x1080p@60Hz is working fine, I use it in almost all my Pi's, except one that the monitor does not support that resolution.I think It is most likeley some Kodi config/addon or something related to your setup, like power supply.

I'm leaning on this problem has something to do with the display resolution. I'm using a 7" TFT display everything works fine until Kodi loads I know it loaded because it eventually displayed fine all by itself after leaving it alone for a bit. Pressing anykey made the screen fuzzy lines again. Pressing up arrow key then enter twice kodi exited and back to ES retropie fine.
Where can I get at the file/setting Kodi uses for display settings? Thanks in advance. Sorry for bumping this old thread but I kept being brought back here in my searches for answers.
