I am tempted by one of those cheapo 2.25inch trackballs that have a ps/2 connector but am not sure if they work well with a USB adapter or whether they are any good anyway, so what trackballs and spinners are people using and what pitfalls and issues are there?

@chubsta If you prefer to read about it instead of watch a video, here's a link: http://wagnerstechtalk.com/grs

btw- Towards the very end of the video, I demonstrate Tempest (on the Spinner) and Centipede (with a trackball) with Picture-in-a-Picture so you can see exactly how it performs. Spoiler alert: you'll love it! These parts work with the Arcade1UP, PC, Linux and of course RetroPie over USB.

I'm using the trackball out of the X Arcade tankstick. Works great on Pi with Mame games!

Pretty well built trackball, haven't had issues so far.

I'm using two SpinTrak spinners from Ultimarc (product page). They are very well made and spin quite long even with small flyweights.
